After failing for 130 years to ratify the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery except as punishment for crime, the state of Mississippi finally ratified the Thirteenth Amendment on March 16, 1995. . So many of my clients are just like @RexChapman -addicts. But it reminds me of what if my favorite quotes: I believe that each person is more than the worst thing they've ever done- Bryan Stevenson

As we reach the end of #BHM, we are reminded that the past is always present. Last Fall, many MacArthur Staff members journeyed to @eji_org's Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice. EJI was founded by #MacFellow and human rights activist Bryan Stevenson.
Bryan Stevenson launched the nation’s first memorial dedicated to the legacy of Black Americans who were enslaved, terrorized by lynching, humiliated by racial segregation, presumed guilty, dangerous.
#OTD On March 6, 1857, SCOTUS ruled 7-2 that Dred Scott as a slave, was property & was not an American citizen and therefore could not sue for his freedom in federal court. It is considered one of the worst SCOTUS decisions. Read more at @eji_org: calendar.eji.org/racial-injusti…
The Dred Scott case was decided by the U.S.Supreme Court 167 years ago today. No matter how many times I read it, the opinion still stings. It's riddled with a fundamental contradiction--enslavers deciding who is free @eji_org calendar.eji.org/racial-injusti…
People forget case names often contain surnames of real ppl who lived, breathed, loved, laughed & cried like all of us. #DredScott v. Sandford is one of the most ignominious decisions the Supreme Court ever issued as @eji_org has thoughtfully reminded us with this powerful video.
In 1846, enslaved spouses Dred and Harriet Scott sued for their freedom after their enslaver brought them to territories where slavery was outlawed. Their case eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in Dred Scott v. Sandford that Black people were not American…
⚖️👨🏾⚖️ Pioneers in Justice: Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice, & Bryan Stevenson, a tireless advocate for the marginalized. Their work reshapes our legal landscape, championing equality and human rights. #BHM
Today we highlight the transformational work of Bryan Stevenson who founded @eji_org in Montgomery, Alabama to fight for human rights and a fairer criminal justice system. In his words, “each of us is more than the worst thing we’ve ever done.” #BlackHistoryMonth

My charitable donation this month is going to @eji_org (Equal Justice Initiative) in honor of Black History Month. I highly recommend Bryan Stevenson’s “Just Mercy” if you haven’t read it. He is the brilliant and kind founder of EJI.

Really moved to play a role in today's @StJohnsE11 #RacialJusticeSunday service & discuss my work as a #barrister. I draw inspiration from @eji_org's Bryan Stevenson, which we discuss from 28:50. It was also an honour to lead today's prayers (from 53:00). youtube.com/live/QZKOwfT-l…
