On August 18, 1903 – German engineer Karl Jatho allegedly flies his self-made, motored gliding airplane four months before the first flight of the Wright brothers.
@engineers_feed It didn’t fly under its own power, it was launched by a ground vehicle that accelerated it to sufficient speed to gain flight, much like a paper airplane.
@engineers_feed Not doubting but in the court case there were 4 witnesses. I am not saying they lied, but they flew. 4 witnesses to this event only and what did the courts say. Just asking the question I was not alive than but u do love facts. Please edify me if I am wrong.
@engineers_feed The key words here is allegedly…. And there lies the problem.
@engineers_feed It was actually an Indian who flew the first airplane in 1895. But the British would never accept that a native from their colonial occupations can achieve a scientific feat. So his name is lost in history. voices.shortpedia.com/karan-kapoor/s…
@engineers_feed Looks like it could be airborne. No landing gear. So must have been launched by several people. Wing missing the chord, flat wing paper airplanes do fly.
@engineers_feed Nope, based on surface area, it would've needed a tremendous amount of thrust probably sending it heels over head in a flipping motion
