The Nicki Minaj episode last week was a deeply revealing window into so many of the key dynamics of US discourse, culture, power, media and politics.
@ggreenwald I think everyone looks at it through whatever presupposition they have at hand. Pop culture star dipped her toes into a ravage political/cultural topic & partisans on both sides reacted exactly as they would have regardless of who said the message. Minaj’s platform is just bigger
@ggreenwald What it reveals most is that a celebrity diva used her bully pulpit to spread a bullshit story to justify not being vaccinated.
@ggreenwald It was revealing in the same way that when an obvious fallacious anecdotal argument is presented in the face of scientific consensus and it is rightly ridiculed
@ggreenwald Truly amazes me that I’m supposed to sit here and pretend some real stuff is happening here when it’s a celebrity playing a role, it’s a theater.
@ggreenwald Yes—it highlighted when you make up politically advantageous information Tucker Carlson still has you on and launches a massive defense on your behalf
@ggreenwald Agreed. I would never see this coming 2 years ago, hell not even 2 months ago
@ggreenwald The best thing anybody has said this decade.
@ggreenwald It pointed out if you are a famous star & say something that questions the current narrative & you get vilified, you will get a call from the White House, the media pays attention, & you will eventually give credence to the questions. If Joe citizen does it, he is done in life.
@ggreenwald Balls-gate was pretty culturally and politically revelatory. Just like ivermectin-gate
