On this Day of Remembrance, a film clip from the Japanese American concentration camp at Jerome, AK that was lost for 75 years. @internetarchive curator @footage saw this Kodachrome reel up for sale on EBay. He bought it & put it in our repository for safekeeping. #history
@footage 2/ Thought to be shot by camp staffer, Charles Lynn, this short clip shows Japanese Americans leaving Jerome in June 1944. They look happy, but in reality, they're being shipped to a nearby camp called Rohwer. Watch full 16:00 here: archive.org/details/010114… #JapaneseAmericans
@internetarchive @footage Another person incarcerated at Jerome was Roy Matsumoto. To get out, he volunteered for the Military Intelligence Service and served behind the lines with Merrill’s Marauders in Burma. Our film about Roy is titled: Honor & Sacrifice.
