As I always say, transit leaders should be riding transit. You can't make good decisions about a service you're unfamiliar with. Saying "I grew up riding the bus" doesn't give you a pass to not ride the system today. nyc.streetsblog.org/2023/03/14/exc…
@jahorne @transit4philly do we think any SEPTA board members use SEPTA?
@jahorne ABSOLUTELY. At the very least, it's a morale booster for the operators & front line staff to see the leaders actually take an interest in what's going on day to day. Our drivers sure appreciated it when I visited them & rode with them.
@jahorne @jaclyninbklyn If they're not using them, give them to me
@jahorne The parking lot that dominates the NJ Transit headquarters is a testament to what they care about.
@jahorne I think all elected officials in urban or suburban areas should walk, ride a bike e-bike or golf cart, or use public transit to commute to official duties. I think we we end up with much better infrastructure for all these modes of transit
@jahorne Absolutely! I have been saying this for years too. I think all elected leaders should be required to RELY on transit, not just take it occasionally. Only when you Need transit for life (not just photo-ops) can you truly understand what people are dealing with.
@jahorne i'm one of the few people at my (small) agency who rides our system as a regular passenger. there are some who refuse to "ride a public bus" in general, but others can't make it work due to their schedules/locations.
