Sky try to sequence off the flare screen with one that turns into a pick-and-roll for CP/Dolson, but the timing is a little off and Peddy picks it off. Peddy had a great offensive game in addition to her usual opportunistic defense—nice touch on the pass to Griner here for two.
Elbow > horns for PHO, and another good look. Copper once again steps against the ballhandler, and since Dolson switches weakside onto DT, BG is wide open with DeShields not switching (as Vandersloot did above). Horns has been really effective for PHO #WNBA
... and again! Vandersloot goes over the screen, can't quite get there, and DT nails it with Dolson, who switched off Griner last time, perhaps reluctant to do so again. Little extra step by BG setting the screen makes all the difference.
CHI comes right back with horns of their own—Quigley screens and dives, drawing SDS and the attention of Griner; Dolson pops out beyond the arc and hits her first three of the game (after 2/3 in game one). #noceiling
Great ball movement from the Sky off the BLOB. Dolson gets the post mismatch against DT, so Turner helps. Copper makes a great cut that draws Griner away from the corner and second pass out of the post (Dolson to CP to open corner), and Quigley finally hits from three. #WNBA
PHO-nomenal from the Mercury. Ball reversal and DT gives BG a cross-screen to establish position in the post, but then DT turns around and sets a determined backscreen for the cutting Turner, and SDS puts the pass in perfect position. #WNBAFinals
Just textbook from Phoenix. Handoff into ballscreen for Turner, quick slip and pass to Griner, whom Dolson left to help against the slip. Copper can't drop quickly enough and gets called for the foul as the Mercury tie it up in crunch time.
Turner had an incredible game two, bouncing back from an unexceptional game one. Here she runs back to get the steal on a fast-breaking CP, and then turns around and runs the floor (as we saw earlier) to catch the defense unaware and get a nice basket. #WNBAFinals
Sky come back with a nice Spain PnR—Stevens screens and then rolls, Quigley backscreens for her and pops—which does its job removing the help defense as Vandersloot just takes it herself and ties the game. #SKYTOWN
Talked about BG becoming the release valve earlier, and PHO play on that to perfection here. Turner goes low block while BG move to the elbow, so Stevens has to pick—does the follow BG or let her go to stay in help position/on Turner? SDS sees her decision and makes the pass
Spain PnR again in crunchtime for Phoenix; this time it's Peddy as the ballhandler, and she does athletically lays it in for the two-score lead as Stevens is thrown off just enough by Griner's roll to help efficiently.
Copper hasn't had her best second half ever, but she makes an incredible play to fight for position (great seal) with SDS before grabbing a crucial rebound and putting it back for a three-point play. As @herhoopstats notes, she's undeniable at the rim: x.com/herhoopstats/s…
