Talent trying to prove their talent as their top priority will lead to frustration & regret. Talent that can blend that talent with the talents of their teammates will lead to best chance to win. It’s not each player having talents that wins. It’s the blending of those talents.

One of many things I learned coaching in the NBA for 13 years is that talent at the college level doesn’t automatically transfer to the NBA level. That talent has to keep working, keep learning, keep developing, and keep adjusting. Every new level is much harder than it looked.

Building teams is getting harder and harder with so much movement at so many of the levels. It’s so important to evaluate what fits you as the coach and fits the program you want to run. Talent alone doesn’t guarantee success. The RIGHT TALENT for you has the best chance.

As we see all these coaching changes I often tell coaches who are deciding on what to do: only you and your family know what is truly important to you and what you value most. In todays world many outsiders say what you should do but only you know what is best for you.

One thing so evident with the 4 teams that have reached the Final Fours (W & M): they are TRUE TEAMS. To attain anything of great significance you will need the help of others. Everyone needs everyone on each of these teams. And it appears that everyone is in it for each other!

Getting # of DM’s about my speaking. The 2 questions many have DM’d me on: 1) yes I speak to football programs. Have spoken to U of Florida, OK State, Carolina Panthers in past & Minnesota yesterday. 2) how many talks/year I do: 40-70 depending on how much I want to travel.
