It is unacceptable to block news content for Canadians. Google’s arbitrary “tests” have harmed Canadians, journalists and news organizations. As a result of the lack of cooperation from Google Canada, the Heritage Committee unanimously agreed to place them under oath in 1/3
yesterday’s meeting. As a former journalist in Hamilton, I know how important it is for my constituents to have access to news content, which is why we introduced Bill C-18, the Online News Act, and we see how Google is abusing its dominance in the market place to strong arm 2/3

@lisahepfner Why should they carry any particular news content? That's not "blocking" it. If they're performing such a valuable service for 🇨🇦 media, maybe the media should be paying *them*?
@lisahepfner Google is a private company and if you want to start forcing them to pay Canadian corporations they can stop providing that service.
