Today, we celebrate the life, leadership & vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At the 1961 AFL-CIO convention, Dr. King made it clear: Racism is a tool used to divide working people. The two most dynamic, driving forces for change in this country are labor & civil rights.
Right now at the AFL-CIO, we are speaking the truth, including about ourselves, having difficult conversations & pushing past our comfort zones. Because the labor movement is not a narrow, outside interest group. We are an intersectional *movement.*

He understood racial equality was inextricably linked to economics so asked, What good does it do to be able to eat at a lunch counter if you can’t buy a hamburger?
