Peter Daszak has expanded on his disclosure statements for three pieces relating to COVID-19 that he co-authored or contributed to in @TheLancet thelancet.com/journals/lance…
2 little 2 late "other co-authors also have direct ties to the group that were not disclosed as conflicts of interest.. members of the Board of Directors of EcoHealth Alliance.. Executive Vice President for Health and Policy.. Science and Policy Advisor." usrtk.org/biohazards-blo…
Will we also hear now about Daszak's conflicts of interest wrt to the China-WHO joint study? x.com/ayjchan/status…

Is there any penalty for failing to disclose competing interests? Other than "There may be differences in opinion as to what constitutes a competing interest." FOIA'ed emails reveal at least a few authors knew it would appear to be in their self-interest. usrtk.org/biohazards-blo…
And w*f does this mean "Readers, in turn, have their own interests that could influence their evaluation of the work in question." If you're going to admit you messed up and didn't acknowledge a flaring COI, don't put this on your readers.
"As per WHO rules, this work is undertaken as an independent expert in a private capacity, not as an EcoHealth Alliance staff member." Tip for people trying to evade declarations of COIs in the future: just say you're doing this in a "private capacity."
@Ayjchan Yeah total joke. I declare no conflicts of interest when wearing the WHO badge in Wuhan because I'm private Peter, not that other Peter collaborating with WIV. But when I'm back at the hotel, I just take off the badge and email Zhengli to discuss our next grant app. See, no COI!
@Ayjchan The "addendum" just further proves that Daszak thinks the rules don't apply to him, and that neither does The Lancet
@michaelzlin @Ayjchan I wonder if he applies the same alice in wonderland logic to lab safety design
