Wrote some notes summarizing my first impressions of web3: moxie.org/2022/01/07/web…
@moxie > People are excited about NFT royalties, but royalties aren't specified in ERC-721 TIL EIP-2981: NFT royalty standard is not finalized. The GitHub issue (EIPs/issues/2907) is still open.
@moxie @benedictevans Great article. NFT security (or lack thereof) is definitely a huge, untackled issue, and probably an expensive one given the prices paid for some NFTs. This passage was startling:
@moxie This part has absolutely astounded me, I thought the fact that stuff like this couldn’t happen was the entire selling point of blockchain and NFTs 🤦♂️
@moxie Ew thought 1: Simplified payment verification with PoW is absolutely necessary. I'm extremely surprized they aren't doing that
@moxie What confuses me are NFTs like the Ape thing where you are buying a license to intellectual property. One of the first lessons of the web was that such licenses require very centralized authorities (literally governments) to enforce… and the web would likely break them anyway…
@moxie Fantastic article Great point with how the db/server layers being decentralized doesn’t mean the API and frontend is HomeScreen is working towards front ends that are also decentralized. Might be worth a look. But I suspect you are right and that wallets end up as aggregators
@moxie Some excellent food for thought. Thanks for writing this.
@moxie These problems stem from a poorly designed RPC which hasn’t seen much changes in the past five years. @trueblocks has recognized it years ago and has already built the missing account-centric index and querying. @wmitsuda has also built Otterscan on top of @ErigonEth.
