Up for some virtual cloud watching? ☁️ ⁣
⁣
What do you see in Jupiter's hazy atmosphere? ⁣
⁣
⁣
Our @NASAJuno mission captured this look at the planet’s thunderous northern region during the spacecraft’s close approach to the planet on Feb. 17, 2020. ⁣
⁣
Some notable features in this view are the long, thin bands that run through the center of the image from top to bottom. Juno has observed these long streaks since its first close pass by Jupiter in 2016. ⁣

photo_library The nighttime lights of cities & infrastructure are fingerprints of civilization. 💡⁣ ⁣
With @NASAEarth satellite data, scientists detected signs of the shutdown of business and transportation in central China in late Jan. in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. ⁣ ⁣
At night, satellite images such as these capture a uniquely human signal– artificial lighting. Remotely-sensing this light provides a new data source for improving our understanding of interactions between human systems and the environment. ⁣ ⁣
This imagery is part of a larger project at NASA called Black Marble, which is playing a vital role in research on light pollution, illegal fishing, fires, disaster impacts and recovery, and human settlements and associated energy infrastructures.⁣

If we could squeeze a galaxy, it would be this fluffy-looking one.

Spiral galaxies like this, located 60 million light-years away, have supermassive black holes at their bright centers. Astronomers are trying to understand this cozy relationship.

Our Curiosity Mars rover recently set a record for the steepest terrain it's ever climbed. ⛰️⁣
⁣
Its mission is to study whether the Martian environment could have supported microbial life billions of years ago. One tool for doing that is a camera called the Mars Hand Lens Imager which is located in the turret at the end of the robotic arm. This camera provides a close-up view of sand grains and rock textures, similarly to how a geologist uses a handheld magnifying glass for a closer look in the field on Earth. ⁣
⁣
The camera also takes all the individual frames that get stitched into the full images you see! This selfie is a 360-degree panorama comprised of 86 images relayed to Earth. ⁣
