Photo by @chrisburkard | Two completely different landscapes collide, making the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado. The mountains and dunes were created by the same forces of wind, with the dunes peaking at up to 750 feet (228 meters), the tallest in North America. After lakes within the valley receded, the exposed sand was blown by the predominant southwest winds toward the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, eventually forming the dune field over an estimated tens of thousands of years. Within the western U.S., the Great Sand Dunes National Park is one of my favorite places to explore.

Photo by @amivitale | A rainbow bridges the skies and earth in the rolling hills of Montana. As a photographer, my intention is to tell stories about the natural world that remind us of how connected we are to one another and to all of life. I am also looking for places of hope, where there is an understanding and respect for nature that may be imperfect but gives us a way forward.

Photo by @chiaragoia | People walk in Piazza del Duomo in Milan, Italy, in the late afternoon light. Piazza del Duomo (literally Cathedral Square) is the main square in Milan and, with its Gothic cathedral, it’s the most iconic site in the city. The paving and parvis visible in this picture were designed by Piero Portaluppi in 1928.

Photo by @kiliiiyuyan | Tundra polygons are shaped by thousands of years of freezing and thawing and an underlying permafrost layer. These polygons are the key to the marshlands that make excellent bird nesting areas, as they create small, shallow lakes surrounding dry ground. Here, they’re seen at Qupaluk in the Alaskan Arctic in late June. #alaska #tundra #arctic

Photo by @daisygilardini | Due to Scoresby Sund’s remote location off the eastern coast of Greenland, it’s still possible to see wild muskox grazing on the tundra.
Muskox, together with reindeer and bison, are among the few animal species that survived the last glacial era. Their name is derived from the strong, musky odor they give off during the mating season.

Photo by @MichaelGeorge | The Faerie Glen (Fairy Glen) is located in western Scotland on the Isle of Skye. It is a relatively small area with a lot of geological diversity. In the center of the glen, you will find a man-made labyrinth (seen here). The circle of stones is used for walking meditation or spiritual practice. There are variations on how to walk it. For instance, you can think of a problem as you walk and leave it in the center or think of all the bad things about yourself as you walk in and all the good things as you walk out. #faerieglen #isleofskye #scotland #labyrinth #meditation
