A pipeline failure off the coast of Orange County, CA, has sent more than 126,000 gallons of oil spilling into the water since Saturday. On Sunday, officials reported that the oil slick has grown to 13 square miles and counting.

The 17.5-mile pipeline connects to an offshore oil platform operated by Beta Offshore, one of the largest oil producers in Southern California.

The threat of the oil spill in the face of wildfires is immediate; in fact, dead fish and birds have reportedly already begun washing ashore over the weekend on some beaches in Southern California. Beaches in the city of Huntington Beach are closed indefinitely.

@nowthisnews damn 🙁 not my home away from home

@nowthisnews Because wildlife species and the planet aren’t dying fast enough!

@nowthisnews Has the leak stopped?

@nowthisnews Orange County is where the climate denial, anti-environmental regulation, fossil fuel loving conservatives live in California. #Karma

@nowthisnews good grief! you'd think we'd learn. 1969 in SantaBarbara should have been enough. that's 50 years of unbelievable death and destruction. Humans need to learn how CHANGE BAD BEHAVIOR, NOT CONTINUOUSLY REPEAT IT!

The #HuntingtonBeach Congresswoman @RepSteel takes money from oil companies. She's pro-oil. Well,@RepSteel maybe now you see. The oil company & GOP backers are responsible for the destruction of out coastline & the death of our marine wildlife. Donate to Harleyforcongress.com twitter.com/latimes/status…

@nowthisnews This is my community & I am irate! I will work my tail off to see Republicans(all owned by big oil) never get power again! #HuntingtonBeach #OilSpill twitter.com/tweetMalena/st…
