A doping scandal means Russia, formally at least, has no representation at the #Tokyo2020 #Olympics. Do Russian sports fans care about that? nyti.ms/3fktTIW
@nytimes Olympic Committee: “Russia, you are OUT!” ROC: “We’d like to apply for admittance.” Olympic Committee: “Are you sure you aren’t Russia?!” ROC: “WHO!!!??? NO!” Olympic Committee: “You’re in!!”
@nytimes The IOC needs Russia in the Olympics. So they are willing to see reduced penalties, etc. Obvious. And by the way the Russian gymnasts only got the gold because Biles pulled out. Athlete to athlete the US still dominates as a team in women's gymnastics.
@nytimes Why has the incentive not to cheat been removed? Russian athletes should not be competing at all. There’s no real penalty for doping
@nytimes Olympics should be athletes competing without any country affiliation. No national anthems. No flag waving. Celebrate the athletes, not the regimes. There, problem solved.
@nytimes I care. It’s shameful that they were allowed in at all this year. Watch “Icarus” if you haven’t yet.
@nytimes IOC dropped the ball on this. This wasn’t just individual doping but state sponsored the entire country should not be allowed. I feel bad for the athletes if they didn’t partake
