This was a student’s answer to when reading sucks….How can anyone tell anyone that they are too old to read a graphic novel? Let alone a kid?! And we wonder why so many kids dislike reading, when we police the joy right out of it. Note courtesy of one of my fantastic studen…
@pernilleripp @inkyelbows Thinking you need to have a talk with some parents.
@pernilleripp I’m teaching a Children’s Lit class and a Reading Methods course this semester, and I keep driving this point home. Independent reading time should be about reading whatever the student wants.
@pernilleripp Education is needed not only to our students. Is there any communication or parent education where this note came from?
@pernilleripp Our AP and IB classes teach with graphic novels. My HS learners have access in my room and the media center. I’ve just gotten into GNs myself, and I’m loving them. Too old pffft.
@pernilleripp I’m 42. I read graphic novels. How old is this student? I’m not sure what age you become to old to read them, I don’t think I’ll ever reach that age
@pernilleripp My daughter went to the book fair at school many years ago. I always gave them $ to pick their own books. She bought a novelization of Pirates of the Caribbean and it came home with a note, if your daughter bought this by mistake you may return it. Like girls don’t enjoy Pirates!
