As our article posits, @nashfilmfest is in a steep decline, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some worthy offerings. Follow this thread to see the hits and misses during its run through Wednesday. pamphleteer.co/post/the-weekl…
Slim pickins for @nashfilmfest Friday night: JACIR (8:30 at TPAC). See a Syrian refugee bond with an opioid addict in Memphis. Features SOPRANOS alum Lorraine Bracco. Why think about nuanced geopolitical issues when you can FEEL? nashfilmfest.eventive.org/schedule/63040…
The more films we watch at @nashfilmfest, the more we feel like we are behind enemy lines. What happened to movies as mass media? To catering to our entire community? To exchanging ideas? To indie films where characters aren’t just mouthpieces to opine about social issues?
Finally a good egg at @nashfilmfest about the collision between Post-9/11 NYC and last gasp of American artistic innovation: The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, @Interpol, @lcdsoundsystem. Visually inventive, actual depth. But why is it screening at a hotel? nashfilmfest.eventive.org/films/62ed3ee7…
First up this morning at @nashfilmfest: a block of Tennessee-made narrative shorts at TPAC. Will return with full report. nashfilmfest.eventive.org/schedule/63040…
In 2015, @nashfilmfest showed Godard’s GOODBYE TO LANGUAGE in 3-D and the gutsy Ukrainian deaf gang movie THE TRIBE. @SpiritHalloween The Movie screens today at the @FranklinTheatr… #nashvillefilmfestival
There’s some major film talent in TN; @nashfilmfest’s local program doesn’t make that case. “Say Again” is worst movie I’ve seen at any fest. Total embarrassment if visitors see it. There’s masks! Overstated gestures! Dialogue about Glen Casada! Toilet paper! Social distance!
More jabs at state Republicans! Lighting overexposure! Preteen film camp shot design! Who the hell does “director” Kelley Bell know on the @nashfilmfest staff and what worthy local film did they reject for this pedestrian tripe that wouldn’t even go viral online? #networking
