The health secretary @sajidjavid repeats his description of nearly 1000 covid deaths a week as 'mercifuly low' - I expect that statement will haunt him
No.10 persistently fails to learn from the past, heed the experience of other countries, or behave decisively when the moment comes. So now we have to watch, with dreary inevitability, as they make the same mistakes all over again.
“But the vaccine doesn’t even guarantee you won’t get sick, it really only stops you from dying.”
Not dying sounds pretty fucking spectacular, to me.
The focus on online abuse following the tragic murder of Sir David Amess MP is curious. If the idea is online abuse contributes to hate & radicalises, I agree. But the same must be said of some radio/tv broadcasters & columnists & those politicians who profit from division.
I'm not sure the families of the 954 people who have died from Covid in the last week will agree with Sajid Javid that death rates are "mercifully low".
It would cost less than £1bn net (when wages are recirculated in the economy) to give NHS nurses & staff a 15% payrise. A wealth tax of 0.05% on financial transactions would raise £250bn pa.
If you value the NHS & those who care for us, then back wealth taxes.
When my money goes towards someone’s wage and that someone is voted for by the public to represent me and others in parliament and they get to vote on shit that affects my life, I want to know how they voted.
I know you're all TIRED OF HEARING IT
But yesterday the UK reported more covid-related deaths than the same date last year.
Last year, we were heading for the tier system ?

Intelligent people understand that silence is often misinterpreted but it is never misquoted.
Cutting taxes for bankers while putting up taxes for nurses. A crime.
Billionaires don’t work harder than nurses, they just get a by-ball. 🏏
NEW: Matt Hancock claimed the Government ‘right from the start’ threw ‘a protective ring around care homes’. This was simply untrue.

223 Coronavirus deaths today. 911 deaths in the last 7 days. That’s not freedom that’s negligence

The longer Covid is in circulation, the longer it can be used as a smokescreen for all the Brexit catastrophes.
Make no mistake, the Government intended this level of infection, it benefits them in multiple ways, and they truly believe you won’t notice, or care how many die.
Are you in favour of banning anonymous Twitter accounts?

Retweet if you will never vote for the conservatives.
Personally speaking, if politicians don’t want to get abuse for how they vote, they should probably stop voting for policies which totally fuck over ordinary people (whilst protecting their wealthy chums) time and time again.
The UK has some of the highest Covid hospitalisation rates in the world.
Yet today, MPs were denied a vote on the Coronavirus Act.
It should’ve been repealed & replaced with clear measures to protect lives.
Instead the government are walking us towards a Covid winter disaster.
Amazing what the Tories in general, and the Boris Johnson government in particular, get away with.
Can you imagine if these stats were under a Prime Minister Corbyn or even Miliband? twitter.com/LabourRoyall/s…
The government of a country that has over 2000 food banks 15 million people living in poverty and one of the highest covid infection rates in the world has decided its main priority should be the removal of boilers and internet anonymity.
The UK has the highest case rates of COVID-19 in the world. One third of our population is not protected. China has already vaccinated a higher % and through infection control has a death rate of 3 per million. Our death rate is 2028 per million. The govt + advisers are silent.
There were 229,000 new cases of coronavirus in the world yesterday. The UK provided 20% of them. 1 in 5 of the new cases in the whole world was on our little island.
It's interesting that we are meant to feel sorry for the Leave voters who "didn't get the Brexit they voted for" but not the Remain voters who didn't want the Brexit they got.
There's an unsatisfactory asymmetry here.
Whatever your thoughts on recent events...
Johnson is still a liar
>4 million children live in poverty 1000 people die every week from Covid
The poorest in society are getting poorer
Brexit is a disaster
The NHS is on its knees
Tears are part of the human experience. Denying them is denying your humanity.
Noone knows about the nights you spend telling yourself that it’s gonna be okay even though you know deep inside it won’t.
I’m just so fucking tired.
Scrapping tuition fees would cost £7 billion.
Don’t let them tell you that’s ‘unaffordable’. Remember, the rich added £107 billion to their wealth during the pandemic.
Scrap fees now.
