The new 14" MacBook Pro with a 10-core M1 Pro chip, which starts at $2,199, is faster than an Intel-based 12-core Mac Pro, which starts at $6,999, in benchmarks. Not a perfectly fair comparison, but still impressive…
M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are coming in around ~12,400 for multi-core scores on Geekbench 5 across the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro lineup (one exception: the base 14-inch model with an 8-core CPU that costs $1,999). 12-core Mac Pro around ~11,800.
@rsgnl As predicted! Wait until you see the real-world performance.. 🤯
@rsgnl It's still slower than a ryzen 3950x or 5950x, and you can't get the RAM like you can on the ryzen or mac pro systems. (not even getting into threadripper which is fair in this context) It's good news, but with the caveat that to truly replace the mac pro you need RAM.
@rsgnl I think despite having good specs, it'll suck at gaming as usual
@rsgnl I'm just going to leave one of my theories here. x.com/kbhasi/status/…

@rsgnl Biggest test will be if you can do a 2 hour meeting on Google Meet without draining the battery. My current 16 inch can’t do that.
