Enough is enough. Disabled people are not the problem. Last week the Prime Minister made a speech about so-called 'sicknote culture'. He also proposed major changes to disability benefits. Today we're launching a petition in response to this full-on assault of disabled people.

We need an answer and that answer cannot be making cuts to a system that’s already failing to meet the needs of our most vulnerable children, and putting more pressure on our impossibly stretched schools and teachers, when it doesn’t even fix the problem but exacerbates it.
These SEND deficits are currently off the books until 2026 so it’s the threat of bankruptcy that makes LAs feel this is their best bet. But the scheme doesn’t clear the deficits or affect the override ending, or even stop their deficits growing each year. It’s not a solution.
Five LAs have had their agreements suspended because they’ve failed to meet their targets. Two have been extended. This means that the agreed funding towards in-year overspend isn’t received. Which means children are being failed for no benefit whatsoever. schoolsweek.co.uk/ministers-with…
BCP’s plan was refused because, at 15 years, the cuts weren’t swift or deep enough. Which begs the question: what’s in the 38 agreements that have been signed? What have LAs agreed to? They only get their funding if they meet their targets for spending cuts.
Some of the detail: halving the number of EHCPs issued (and more), increase in children with EHCPs being placed in mainstreams including 100% reception age, blanket policies for plan cessation at certain stages, no more bespoke plans / indie specialist placements and so on.
SV is secretive. There’s not one detailed plan available for the public to read. My LA, BCP, was refused by DfE and published their plan following a pre-action letter. The plan makes for a concerning read: bcpacs.uk/blog/bcp-publi…
This deficit affects not just children with SEND, but all children in all schools, as many LAs are taking a % of schools funding towards their debts. Even if this takes a school below it’s minimum per pupil funding, @educationgovuk will sign it off. bcpacs.uk/blog/dfe-agree…
SV agreements hold local authorities to ransom, insisting they cut spending on SEND to get a small amount of money towards deficits that only exist because their funding is insufficient. So far 38 local authorities are in agreements. gov.uk/government/pub…

We need an answer and that answer cannot be making cuts to a system that’s already failing to meet the needs of our most vulnerable children, and putting more pressure on our impossibly stretched schools and teachers, when it doesn’t even fix the problem but exacerbates it.
These SEND deficits are currently off the books until 2026 so it’s the threat of bankruptcy that makes LAs feel this is their best bet. But the scheme doesn’t clear the deficits or affect the override ending, or even stop their deficits growing each year. It’s not a solution.
Five LAs have had their agreements suspended because they’ve failed to meet their targets. Two have been extended. This means that the agreed funding towards in-year overspend isn’t received. Which means children are being failed for no benefit whatsoever. schoolsweek.co.uk/ministers-with…
BCP’s plan was refused because, at 15 years, the cuts weren’t swift or deep enough. Which begs the question: what’s in the 38 agreements that have been signed? What have LAs agreed to? They only get their funding if they meet their targets for spending cuts.
Some of the detail: halving the number of EHCPs issued (and more), increase in children with EHCPs being placed in mainstreams including 100% reception age, blanket policies for plan cessation at certain stages, no more bespoke plans / indie specialist placements and so on.
SV is secretive. There’s not one detailed plan available for the public to read. My LA, BCP, was refused by DfE and published their plan following a pre-action letter. The plan makes for a concerning read: bcpacs.uk/blog/bcp-publi…
This deficit affects not just children with SEND, but all children in all schools, as many LAs are taking a % of schools funding towards their debts. Even if this takes a school below it’s minimum per pupil funding, @educationgovuk will sign it off. bcpacs.uk/blog/dfe-agree…
SV agreements hold local authorities to ransom, insisting they cut spending on SEND to get a small amount of money towards deficits that only exist because their funding is insufficient. So far 38 local authorities are in agreements. gov.uk/government/pub…
