the availability of cheap clothes made with questionable labor standards has made ppl lose touch with what clothes should cost given the work required, the cost of materials, and fair wages
i think people naturally respond to this with "corporations should pay higher wages" and "poor people can't afford expensive things." these are partly true. but the biggest consumer base for fast fashion is the middle class, and many companies can't pay more bc clothes are cheap
@bidenbasher @emejuan i can easily buy three pairs of good pants with $250 that will last many years. carhartt, dickies, stan ray, etc.
@bidenbasher @emejuan go to a thrift shop. build a wardrobe slowly over time. few people except babies start naked. you don't have to build an entire wardrobe overnight. allow yourself ten years to build a good wardrobe, acquiring a small number of items per year

@cassatjones @shivanourpanah if you were to get rid of all the fast fashion companies—Zara, H&M, Shein, etc—I think you will still have a serious wastefulness problem. the fashion industry's problems are not limited to fast fashion. it is a result of our relationship with clothing.
@bidenbasher @emejuan not sure why you think that. i can easily buy two or three good items per year on $250
