Discussions focused on increasing tourist arrivals, achieving the 2027 target and addressing current challenges. Key goals were agreed upon based on industry recommendations, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to working closely with the sector.

For the first time in our history, an Umrah flight will depart directly from Gan International Airport tomorrow on @MaldivianAero ’s A330. This historic milestone brings greater convenience to the people of Addu and the southern region. Sincere thanks to H.E. President Dr. @MMuizzu for his vision and leadership in making this possible.

The Maldives proudly welcomes its one millionth tourist of 2026. While we reached this milestone on 7 June last year, doing so on 21 June this year reflects the resilience of our sector in the face of significant global air transport disruptions, particularly across the Middle East corridor. My sincere thanks to all tourism stakeholders and airlines for their dedication over the past months. Special appreciation to H.E. President Dr. @MMuizzu and the Government for their timely decisions and continued support. I am confident the remainder of 2026 will make this a strong year.

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون Deeply saddened by the passing of Staff Sergeant Mohamed Mahdy of @MNDF_Official, who lost his life during the rescue operation in Vaavu Atoll while searching for the missing tourists following the deep diving incident. A true act of bravery, courage and sacrifice in the line of duty. May Allah accept him as a martyr, grant him the highest place in Jannah, and give strength and patience to his family, loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time.

I am deeply saddened by the tragic deep diving accident in Vaavu Atoll today. The Coast Guard and all relevant authorities are actively engaged in the search and recovery operation. MoTCA and the industry are providing every possible assistance. I pray for the safe recovery of the missing individuals.

Daravandhoo Airport terminal redevelopment begins today—a major step forward following the transfer of the airport to @MaldivianAero The new terminal will be a state-of-the-art, modern facility with all essential passenger amenities. In Q4 2025, President @MMuizzu announced the inclusion of DRV under the national domestic airports redevelopment plan. IA, this will be a game changer for the people of Baa Atoll.

The Government’s current plan for DRV Airport is focused on upgrading airport facilities and enhancing terminal infrastructure to improve passenger experience and operational efficiency.
