FUN FACT: Magneto debuted in 1963. The Holocaust origin wasn't attached to him until 1981 (Uncanny X-Men #150). Over the years, the backstory wavered between him being Jewish or Roma. By the mid-2000s, the Jewish survivor version became the main canon and spread to other media. Now, the problem is that Marvel Comics has something called a "sliding timeline" -- meaning a given character's origin is always x-years ago, thus preventing them from aging in real time. A notable exception is Captain America who has to be canonically attached to WWII. With him, the sliding timeline is attached to when he was rescued from the frozen ice in the Arctic. In his original return (Avengers Vol. 1 #4), he was a "man out of time" in 1964. Today, he's been unfrozen since, say, the 2010s or so. All this is to say that it's impossible for Magneto to be a Holocaust survivor with a sliding timeline. If he was five years old when the camps were freed, he's nearly 90 now. And doing the, well, COMICS! or MUTANTS! thing doesn't work, because his backstory is inextricably linked to Charles Xavier's. (FYI, for similar reasons, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm are no longer WWII veterans in the comics.) Sorry, folks, serialized fictional characters have to be periodically updated as time marches along.
