(10/10) “Independence would scare off investors!” Investment is already fleeing Canada. Ottawa’s anti-resource policies cost Alberta $500B in lost projects in a decade. Independence means low corporate and capital gains taxes and Alberta becoming a magnet for investment.
(9/10) “It’s Crown land!” Nonsense. Most of Alberta is Crown land, but it’s provincial Crown land, not federal. It already belongs to Alberta, not Ottawa. Independence doesn’t change that fact, it only ensures Ottawa can’t dictate how Albertans use their own land and resources.
(8/10) “Alberta can’t separate!” False. The Supreme Court’s Clarity Act lays out the process for a province to leave. If Ottawa tried to block it illegally, the U.S. has already signaled it would recognize Alberta. Independence is a legal, viable path to freedom and prosperity.
(7/10) “What currency would Alberta use?” Alberta has options. We could launch our own currency, peg to another, or even align with the U.S. A 1:1 CAD to USD swap has already been floated. That would make Albertans wealthier overnight.
(6/10) “Alberta doesn’t send money east!” Wrong. Alberta pays over $20B a year in equalization. That’s Alberta cash subsidizing provinces that elect governments hostile to us. Independence means keeping that money here to cut taxes and improve services.
(5/10) “Alberta couldn’t afford to go alone!” Absurd. Alberta sends $67B in taxes to Ottawa and gets only ~$20B back. That’s a $47B net loss every year. Imagine keeping that money here: lower taxes, better hospitals, stronger schools, and a higher quality of life for Albertans
(4/10) “It’s Canada’s oil!” False. Alberta’s resources belong to the Alberta Crown, not Ottawa. The only reason Ottawa acts like it’s theirs is through regulation, taxes, and obstruction. Independence means Albertans take back full control of our oil, gas, and future wealth.
(3/10) “Alberta can’t leave, it’s Treaty land!” Wrong. The Treaties ceded land rights, they aren’t ownership titles. If Alberta left, First Nations could – Negotiate new deals with Alberta – Have Alberta deliver existing treaties – Or stay with Ottawa They have no veto.
(2/10) “Alberta is landlocked!” We already are. The difference is independence gives leverage. If Ottawa tried to block exports, Alberta could restrict eastbound rail through Vancouver. As a province we’re powerless. As a nation we negotiate from strength, not weakness.
