Some of the big ideas that came out of the just concluded @theplatformng The June 12 special edition. Here, @KolaOyeneyin speaks on equity and justice in a democracy.

My iCloud won’t load up the old pictures for some reason but this is a picture I took in April 2021. We got him the kit that day and I handed over my favourite running shoes at the time cos the guy I usually bought shoes from didn’t have his size that day and said we should come back the very next week 😂😂

In 2021 I was driving along Marian Road, Calabar and saw a really tall lanky kid and I parked the car and chased after him to talk to him. “Do you play Basketball?”… His response was he started playing a few weeks before but barely has time cos his mom is absent and his dad is a brick layer and he has to assist him on his projects, and also does personal laundry for 3 families on the side. He didn’t have a phone, I described where I live and said come on x day and knock on the gate and I’ll be there. He came to my house, I showed him old videos of @Giannis_An34 😂 when he was a scruffy hustling kid, tried to motivate him and gave him a suitcase of clothes (which his dad eventually burnt out of jealousy). Long story short, I went abroad but before leaving enrolled him in a very small Basketball Academy in Calabar ran by a really amazing guy Frank John and since his dad kept being a pain in the ass he eventually moved in with my family. (God bless my parents for how understanding and kind they are). He made a lot of progress over the months and his Basketball coach, and my dad always called to keep me in the loop. Recently he forwarded a pdf of an invite from the NBA Africa Academy in Senegal for try outs, I thought it was fake 😂. Verified and it turned out to be real, he needed flight tickets to Senegal and my homeboy @KennedyEkezie was generous enough to buy them without even being asked. Last night David sent me these photos from Senegal and told me because of his performances he’s gotten a scholarship to an American high school and we only need to figure out the visa. I am thoroughly excited for him, and feel a deep sense of inner fulfillment. This is just the beginning. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

The Art of Salary Negotiation. How I used these practical steps to negotiate an over 50% increase every time I changed a job (did in my last switch from a Team Lead to Tech Manager in a Fortune 100) This thread also includes links to resources that are unique and helpful. 🧵

🚨 A Nicolas Jover special? Just look at William Saliba moving Enzo Fernández so he keeps everyone on-side. ✨

“AWONIYI” (The Boy Who Dared To Dream) Taiwo Awoniyi’s story started in the industrial City of Ilorin, Kwara State in a family of 6 kids. Taiwo’s father was a prison officer whose salary was barely enough to feed his family but it never stopped him from sending 6 of them to school. He would borrow money just to pay their fees because he believed education was their way out of hardship but God had other plans. “GOD ALWAYS HAS A PLAN, TRUST IT” #OdogwuTales

Dangote refinery to import crude oil from the United States  - nairametrics.com/2024/01/29/dan…

Dundee United is a slang for idiots in Nigeria because the Scottish club went on a pre season tour in Nigeria and performed badly in 1972. Nigerians thought they would beat the local clubs they faced, but they had two losses, two draws and one win. Nigeria had never qualified for the FIFA World Cup or AFCON at that time. The Nigerian Football League had just been formed. A Dundee Player, Kenny Cameron said hyenas and vultures were part of the committee that welcomed them at the Kano airport. He also complained about stomach bugs in the squad, traffic jams and post office strikes. This angered the Nigerian media and fans. The media responsed saying Dundee United played amateur football.

Big Big Changes are coming…..

When you are attending an interview before an immigration or a police officer, don’t talk too much. Our people talk too much and say irrelevant things. Do not talk too fast. Speak slowly. Our people talk too fast and inaudibly. Listen very carefully to the questions before answering. Our people answer a different question because they don’t listen well. Good luck.

Maximum respect to Saskatchewan. Trust me, many don’t know what it’s like to thrive in -48 degrees. Uninterrupted heating to homes while generating 3,650MW for a population of ~1.3M is 🔥

One reason why poor people dont get rich is because they disapprove of the duplicity, savvy self-promotion, politicking & artful 'deceit' required to advance in the world of the upper class professional. Poor people are generally raised to be direct, blunt & "straightforward".

"Upper-class individuals are more likely to have inherited at least some of their wealth. According to a 2022 Bank of America study, only about 1 in 4 people with more than $3 million in investable assets are self-made."
