Last week, it looked like there might be the beginnings of a Republican rebound on the generic ballot, but it's back to D +9 now.
"In Trump’s second term, the United States is far worse than unreliable. It’s becoming unhinged. It threatens its allies and begins trade wars with its closest friends, and now the combination of corruption and conspiracy drives an American president into the arms of one of our most dangerous enemies. This is not America first; it’s Trump first. If Putin prevails, rest assured that it will not be Ukrainians alone who pay the price." nytimes.com/2026/10/15/opi…

All my life I have seen the President of the United States as the natural leader of the free world. But no longer. Yesterday, Trump cut a deal with Putin—lifting sanctions so Russia can sell diesel into US and global markets ahead of the midterms. Today he says Ukraine needs a new leader who will “make a deal”. He is pressuring the invaded country to replace a gallant wartime president while rewarding the invader with revenue. That is not ‘America First’. It is certainly not leadership of the free world. He is the self-serving friend of dictators, and a stain upon the founding values of the USA.
Donald Trump disgraced America today. He disgraced valor. He has sided with invaders, the killers and the rapists of Russia. Trump is a weak coward who got 5 deferments from Vietnam and who loves and worships Russia and Putin imo and is not loyal to USA.
You can reasonably dispute the meaning of a lot Trump says because he’s so incoherent and inarticulate. But what you can’t reasonably dispute is that he is a sadistic and delusional narcissistic sociopath, at once both psychopathic and psychotic, who is lacking in morality, conscience, empathy, remorse, and impulse control, and whose only concern if a city (in any country, including ours) were to be wiped off the face of the Earth, would be how it affects him.
This is an amazingly stupid oped. His argument is *entirely* about why he thinks Republicans should win. There’s no data, no argument, no claims about the unreliability of polls other than his boring claptrap about what he thinks Americans should believe. It’s clickbaity hackery. I’m totally willing to read a piece about how the polls are wrong or exaggerated. This isn’t anything of the sort.

In Singapore last week, I had the privilege of welcoming our newest cohort of @ClimateReality Leaders from across Southeast Asia — and I walked out of that room inspired. The determination, the ideas, the urgency they carry: this is what the moment demands. The region is on the front lines of the climate crisis. But it is also home to extraordinary leadership, innovation, and opportunity that will shape a cleaner, more just future — and the people in that room are proof. We held this training in partnership with AT ONE Impact Week. Together - that's how we mobilize action at the scale this crisis demands. One thing has never been clearer: the climate can't wait — and neither will we. #ClimateCantWait #LeadwithClimateReality See less
The President of the United States said that de-transitioning surgeries are being done on his personal orders and no one has paused for a moment to wonder if any rational person would say something so completely and feverishly crazy - because it's just part of the new normal.
I remember the good old days when Putin was claiming to save his Slavic brothers and sisters from Nazis, and not actually trying to burn down some of the holiest sites in Orthodoxy
Russians have struck the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and are burning down one of Ukraine's oldest Orthodox churches‼️ The roof of the Dormition Cathedral is ablaze. The cathedral itself is a significant part of our history, it is older than Moscow. It was already there when russian
I think the compromise consensus position for pretty much everybody of good faith should be that the full text of the agreement be released. There’s no reason to take Trump’s word or Iran’s or random leakers’ word for it. Release the text, period.
Doomerism is indispensable to Christian nationalists, because it is only the downfall of democracy that can make patriarchal authoritarianism palatable. But it turns out that when you try to impose the patriarchy back onto a society that has already embraced liberalism, you mainly remind people of why they chose liberalism in the first place. nytimes.com/2026/06/14/opi…
"At the moment, the United States is negotiating with a regime that President Trump claimed we had already changed, to open a strait that was supposed to be open last month, and to end a nuclear program that we said we had obliterated." So no, things are not going well: nytimes.com/2026/05/28/opi…

Putin didn't invade Ukraine because of NATO. He invaded because Ukrainians were proving democracy works. Historian and Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Applebaum puts it plainly: Putin looked at Ukraine's democratic movement and thought, "If they can do it in Ukraine, then people could do it in Russia. So I need to crush this." That's the real threat Ukraine posed. Not missiles. Not borders. A working democracy next door. Applebaum frames the war as a fault line between the democratic and autocratic worlds. Russia isn't just trying to take territory. It's trying to erase Ukraine as a nation, reduce it to a colony, and send a message to every country that the post-1945 rules of Europe no longer apply. Those rules were simple: no invasions, no wars, borders don't change by force. Russia understood exactly what it was breaking when it crossed into Ukraine.

The Trump admin is quietly deleting info about the Capitol attack from the DOJ website as it prepares to give funds to J6ers. This week, DOJ deleted a press release about one man with an ongoing child solicitation case who came to the Capitol with bear spray. Before and after:
"The modern history of political evangelicalism is riddled with the same kind of story: A powerful man gains a following by casting himself as the heroic warrior against the heretical and the godless. When he uses his power and fame to indulge his basest desires, he treats exposure as an attack and justice as persecution." nytimes.com/2026/05/14/opi…
@DavidAFrench The direct impact of Trump's behaviour towards US allies can be seen in his abysmal approval rating in Europe. Denmark in particular was once one of the most pro-US countries in Europe, but is now at -84% after the threats against Greenland. x.com/i/status/20479…
1/ This is what it looks like on Europe-wide Gallup polls. Greenland is absolutely the thing that has destroyed approval of Trump, and the US, in Europe. Note that Denmark, formerly one of the most US countries in Europe, is now the most anti-US.
"I don’t think Americans fully appreciate the extraordinary cost of Trump’s bluster and blunders. It should go without saying, but once you threaten to invade an allied country, you don’t just place the existence of the alliance in jeopardy; you raise the possibility of allies turning into mortal enemies. You can also trigger the kind of insecurity and scramble for power that contributed to the start of World War I. In practical terms, it’s hard to see how alienating American allies puts America first." nytimes.com/2026/04/26/opi…
