The credibility of the 2027 elections is already facing a critical test. @inecnigeria voters’ register remains unavailable on its website, despite the requirement under Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2026 to publish it online for public scrutiny.

"Fewer than 20 percent of public institutions have designated FOI desk officers, and only 91 of roughly 800 public institutions have complied with Nigeria's Freedom of Information Act." In his latest piece for Connected Development, Abdulmalik Yahya writes on how a chance visit to a water board in Maiha exposed a deeper pattern: fifteen years after Nigeria's FOI Act was signed, the machinery meant to make it work is still missing. 🚨 EBOLA ALERT: NIGERIA MUST ACT NOW! Following reports of an Ebola case in the FCT, Connected Development warns that delayed action, weak surveillance and inadequate preparedness could put more lives at risk. We demand urgent contact tracing, strengthened health facilities, transparent emergency funding and regular public health updates. ⚠️ To Nigerians: Stay vigilant! Avoid contact with anyone showing suspected symptoms, do not spread unverified information, and report suspected cases immediately to health authorities. Ebola is deadly. Complacency is dangerous. Preparedness must be visible, funded and accountable! Read our full statement. 👇🏾 #EbolaAlert #PublicHealth #HealthSecurity #ConnectedDevelopment

Through #HealthShield, CODE is demanding transparency in preparedness spending and evidence of functional surveillance, equipped facilities and trained response teams. Funding approval is not preparedness. States must show the evidence. 2/2🧵 #FollowTheMoney #ConnectedDevelopment

Ebola is no longer a distant threat. Nigeria cannot afford to be caught unprepared. Months after preparedness funds were approved in June, Nigerians deserve answers: How much was disbursed? What has been delivered? Are our states ready? 1/2🧵 #HealthShield #EbolaPreparedness

Project Follow The Money #Throwback in 90 seconds… 🎥 Where does public money go? And how can citizens ensure that funds allocated for development actually reach the communities they are meant to serve? Since 2012, Connected Development (CODE), through its flagship initiative, Follow The Money (FTM), has empowered citizens to track public spending, monitor government projects, and demand accountability for resources meant to improve lives. 🎥 Watch this 90-second throwback as we revisit how Follow The Money continues to empower communities, strengthen transparency, and ensure that public resources deliver real development outcomes. #ProjectThrowbackin90

You now have your PVC, but will you vote? 🗳️ Between getting on the voter register and showing up on election day, what gets in the way? On Off The Record with CODE, our host, @IamNankpak, and journalist Collins Nnabuife discuss youth participation and how doubts about the electoral process can discourage citizens from voting. What would help turn registration into participation: greater trust, clearer information, easier access, or stronger security? 🎥 Watch the conversation via youtu.be/m092XUurTVU?si… #OffTheRecordWithCODE #ConnectedDevMediaVoices #ElectionMata

Because the real measure of progress is not simply that teachers return to work, but that children return to a system better equipped to support their learning. 3/3🧵 #TheDevelopmentGap #TeachersWelfare

For children, every day away from the classroom means lost learning opportunities. For teachers, fair treatment, career progression and the resolution of longstanding grievances are equally important. But ending a strike should mean more than reopening school gates. It should come with transparent agreements, clear promotion policies, a practical plan to recover lost learning and lasting solutions to the issues disrupting education. 2/3🧵 #TheDevelopmentGap #TeachersWelfare

When negotiations drag on, who gives children their lost school days back? This week on The Development Gap, we examine the dispute affecting public schools in the FCT and the learners caught between teachers’ unresolved grievances and the government’s response. 1/3🧵 #TheDevelopmentGap #TeachersWelfare

Leadership training must translate into sustained participation in the decisions that shape our communities. Our Founder, @HamzyCODE , reinforced this message as a guest speaker at the Social Innovation and Leadership Bootcamp (SILB Africa 5.0) in Asaba, Delta State. The 2026 edition, themed “The Architects of Change,” brought together young people from across Nigeria and other African countries to learn, connect and prepare for leadership responsibilities. Reflecting on the Save Bagega story, Hamzy highlighted how citizen-led advocacy can draw attention to neglected communities and drive change. His reflections offered a practical lesson for delegates: meaningful leadership begins with recognising a problem, organising around it and staying engaged until action follows. At Connected Development, we believe young people must have the knowledge, opportunities and support to influence public decisions. This conviction continues to guide our work with citizens and marginalised communities. #ConnectedDevelopment #SILBAfrica2026 #YouthLeadership #YouthParticipation #AccountableGovernance

Project CMCCJ #Throwback in 90 seconds… 🎥🌍 What does the media have to do with climate justice? And how can communities hold governments accountable for climate commitments and public spending? Through the Community Media Collaboration for Climate Justice (CMCCJ) project, Connected Development (CODE) worked with communities, civil society organisations, and media practitioners in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States to bring climate conversations closer to the people most affected. 🎥 Watch this 90-second throwback as we revisit how CMCCJ connected media, communities, and accountability to advance climate justice. #ClimateJustice #CMCCJ #CommunityMedia #ProjectThrowbackin90

The Nigerian government must go beyond rescue numbers, regularly reporting on arrests, prosecutions, and structural measures taken to protect high-risk routes. Because lasting security means Nigerians can travel, study, work, and serve their country without fearing they may be next. 3/3🧵 #TheDevelopmentGap #SecurityAccountability #NYSC #ConnectedDevelopment

But as we explore this week on The Development Gap, rescuing kidnapping victims is not the same as ending kidnapping. The blindspot of our security framework is measuring success solely by who comes home. When the rescue operation ends, critical questions remain: Were those responsible identified and prosecuted? Were the criminal networks and their financing disrupted? What has changed to ensure the same road, the same criminal network, and the same failures do not put another group of travelers at risk? 2/3🧵 #TheDevelopmentGap #SecurityAccountability
