Breaking News! Code: y-Axis Alert! Yesterday's Nino 3.4 preliminary sea-surface temperature anomaly set a new record high, at 3.48°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. To clearly show this anomaly, the y-axis max was raised to 4.0°C. Attention historians: this is gobsmackingly bananas.

On 2.0°C watch. The global temperature anomaly for October 22nd was 1.94°C above the 1850-1900 IPCC pre-industrial baseline and set a new daily record. The Climate 8-Ball is hiding in the corner.

The Atlantic Meridional Ocean Circulation (AMOC) works like a central heating system for western Europe. Europe therefore enjoys a relatively mild and stable climate. The amount of heat provided by the AMOC corresponds to around 50 times the entire energy consumption of humanity. Scientific reconstructions of the AMOC from paleoclimatic data show that after being stable for about the last millennium, the AMOC has weakened over the 20th and 21st centuries. It is now at the weakest it has been in at least a thousand years. Professor Stefan Rahmstorf, a climate scientist at the Potsdam Institute in Germany says: '...if we continue on a high-emission path we may run around a 70 per cent risk of the AMOC shutting down.’ He warns: ‘What Earth’s history tells us is that these are really dramatic events with big impacts on ecosystems. Scientists expect horrific global warming of 1.6-2°C by 2032, triggering the final collapse of major ecosystems, extreme crop-wrecking weather events, widespread global extinction, then more horrific warming from vicious feedbacks, yet media refuse to scream for emergency action.

1.9-2°C OF GLOBAL WARMING IS NO LONGER AVOIDABLE.. It's likely (75% chance) that the 2026-30 five-year mean will exceed 1.5°C, and that one or more years will exceed 1.6-1.7 or 1.8-1.9 in the next ~12-48 months. Even 2°C before 2030 is possible. Anticipate 2.8-4°C by 2050-80.

Continuing its voyage into uncharted waters, the latest preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly is now at a record 3.08°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. Models expect the Nino 3.4 anomaly to continue rising into at least mid-November. Then there will be dragons.

ANTICIPATE EXTINCTION BY 2067-99: Capitalists in governments and corporations have blocked action to avoid 2°C which may well still have been enough to wipe out species like humans as explained by climate scientist James Dyke. Now they're blocking action to avoid hitting 2.5-3°C.

UNIMAGINABLE DESTRUCTION: Capitalist policies to try to avoid horrific 2°C would've risked unsurvivable 3-4°C even if they'd been been implemented. Worse, scientists now know 2°C means cataclysmic extremes previously associated with 5°C and, quite possibly, 3-4°C-like conditions.

When I was young I thought things were bad because solutions were complicated, and now I'm older and realize things are bad because the solutions are often simple, but they would inconvenience affluent people, or those who aspire to be, and religious fanatics.

The latest data is once again showing the preliminary global sea-surface temperature at a record high. "Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, creeps in this petty pace from day to day, to the last syllable of recorded time; and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death."
