It’s amazing to me that people think using AI can only mean ceding control and giving up your own thinking. Bouncing ideas off of anything highly responsive can help a person clarify and extend their own thinking.

@EnglishOER But here's the thing, it currently gives everyone the same ideas. IMO there is a deadly-averageness to both its writing and ideas. Control gets ceded slowly, habitually
@machineciv @EnglishOER You need to actually spend some time with it. Claude, in particular, is a remarkably good collaborator, and I've been using it for all kinds of things. You don't just copy/paste the text directly from the chatbot. You revise it, just like you would with text from a person.
@KennyoftheSmith @machineciv Even when it gives me pretty bland prose and ideas, those sometimes motivate me to do better and help me get started with something completely different.
@EnglishOER @machineciv You also can just prompt it to move in a different direction. I use it a bunch to help prep for class discussion -- I upload whatever article we're discussing and get it to create questions. I'll say, "I'm really interested in X topic. How about some questions on that?"
