When Assad was in power Alawites were targeted during the Syrian Civil War. Islamists have publicly called for violence against Alawites. Alawites suffered a disproportionate number of casualties relative to their total share of the Syrian population during the civil war. It is estimated that around 200,000 Alawites fell in the fight against the Islamists between 2011 and 2024. 1/3 of Young Alawite Men died during the Syrian Civil war. On average, 40 Alawites were killed daily. Violence against Alawite women During the Latakia offensive in 2013, Alawite women were systematically abducted. They were held captive and mistreated by Islamists for years. In 2015, Alawite women were locked in cages and used as human shields. Alawite wives lost their husbands during the war; Alawite mothers lost their sons during the civil war. Cannon fodder for Assad In 2014, Assad said in a private conversation that his regime would fall. Assad's State Media avoided broadcasting Alawite soldier deaths or funerals. Assad's cousin Firas al-Assad publicly stated in 2019 that Assad killed 100,000 Alawites to remain in power. When Jolani came to power According to reports, at least 13,000 Alawites have been killed since Jolani came to power. Hundreds of Alawite women were abducted and converted to Islam. When Alawites protested against this, they were killed or abducted. Alawites who reported the abduction of Alawite women were imprisoned by the Jolani administration. Why you should stand up for Alawites No people in the world deserves to be genocided. It is our moral duty to stand by the weak. What Assad did in Lebanon in the past should not influence us. Hitler was supported by the majority of the German people; nevertheless, Germany was readmitted to the international community after World War II. Today, Germany is a major ally of Israel.
