Babylon is set to launch Phase-1 of their Bitcoin Staking next week! 🎉 Mainnet will be rolled out in three phases: Phase-1: Bitcoin Locking Bitcoin holders lock their bitcoins using a staking script on the Bitcoin blockchain, specifying which finality provider they delegate their voting power to. This setup allows for participation in Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus without transferring the bitcoins. Phase-2: Bitcoin Staking Activation A Babylon PoS chain is launched, utilizing the locked bitcoins for security. Finality providers with delegations from Phase 1 validate block finality on this chain. The chain also implements Bitcoin timestamping for cross-chain time synchronization. Phase-3: Bitcoin Multi-Staking Activation The protocol expands to allow Bitcoin to be staked across multiple PoS systems simultaneously. Bitcoin holders can earn rewards from various PoS networks through the Babylon PoS chain, which acts as a control plane for Bitcoin staking across different systems.
