The example may seem artificial, but I've seen papers use random forests to extrapolate trend variables. But when thinking about inductive biases, we realize that this is like assuming a constant trend. Also extending the range of a feature is a simple case.
All tree-based models (tree, forest, gradient-boosting) level off because increasing the feature doesn't change the terminal node. And within the terminal node, there's usually a constant model, meaning it doesn't matter if we go +1 or + 9000 over the range.
I plotted the results with partial dependence plots, increasing the MedInc for all data. The vertical line marks the 99% quantile of MedInc. Meaning right from that line we have practically no more data.
torch.compile is cool but LLM compile: takes your .py repo as string and outputs a brand new, custom, from scratch, minimal code repository directly running your network in highly optimized CUDA

This is not saying that the aformentioned engines are bad per se. Coding is a particularly special field that "common sense" matter less and the exact way things are implemented matter. In fact, all the solutions provided by the engines "sort of make sense".
