This one's spectacular. In the 1960s, London's Mews were still being used to keep horses. This clip spoils us with a lovely glimpse of the people, pubs, and lifestyle among the cobbled backstreets that have since become expensive housing. They certainly had more personality then than nowadays. @Britains___Pubs

On the 20th of October 1984, 11-year-old Craig Bromfield and his 12-year-old brother Aaron went down to the Seaburn Hotel in Sunderland hoping to get some autographs from the Nottingham Forest players. Aaron spotted Brian Clough walking along the seafront with some of his staff. The boys went over and politely called him Mr Clough. Clough took one look at them. They had no coats on, they were freezing and Aaron had just been swimming in the sea in his pants. Clough called them a couple of “ragtags.” He told them they would “catch their bloody death” dressed like that, and asked if they had eaten any breakfast. They hadn’t. Clough took them back into the hotel and got them fed. Then he told them they could travel to the match with Nottingham Forest on the team bus, as long as they went home first and got permission from their parents. So Craig and Aaron ran the two miles home to Southwick, asked if they could go and ran back again. Once they were on the bus, Clough sat at the front and told them to “bugger off” to the back, where Forest kept the chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks. They could help themselves. Just don’t disturb the players. For two boys who had grown up in and out of care, begging strangers for money and being sent out to steal, it was the best day of their lives. Craig never got the chance to thank Clough properly, so afterwards he wrote him a letter. Clough wrote back. He told Craig he was pleased they had enjoyed themselves and hoped he would see them again. At the bottom he signed it: “Be good, Love Brian.” Not long afterwards, Sunderland drew Nottingham Forest at Roker Park in the League Cup. Craig and Aaron were waiting at the Seaburn Hotel before the Forest team had even arrived. When Clough stepped off the bus, he hugged them. Again, he decided they looked as though they needed feeding. He told them to go inside and order whatever they wanted. Forest returned to Sunderland again just before Christmas. This time, Clough brought presents. The boys were given a football signed by the Forest squad and padded jackets. Clough hadn’t forgotten how they had looked the first morning he met them. “Now you’ve no excuse for not bringing your coats.” But Clough’s involvement in their lives didn’t stop with football. One day outside the ground, Craig spotted four boys from school who had been bullying him. Clough noticed something was wrong and asked him about it. Craig told him. Clough walked over to the four boys. He gave each of them a ticket for the match. Then he gave them a warning. “I know who you are and I know where you all live, and I’ll come round to yer mams’. Now bugger off!” They never bullied Craig again. Over the next few years, Craig and Aaron became part of Clough’s family. They stayed at his home in Derbyshire, played in the games room, went into Nigel Clough’s bedroom, travelled with Forest and were treated like little brothers by Clough’s children. “We had been brought up to believe nobody could love us; that we were unlovable.” “For the first time, we felt loved and special.” When Craig was 16, his parents decided to move to London without him. Clough told him to come and live with his family. He went from being the 11-year-old boy outside the Seaburn Hotel without a coat to travelling to work with Brian Clough, helping out in the Forest dressing room and sitting in the dugout as they won at Wembley. Years later, Craig was asked what his life might have looked like if he had never walked over to Brian Clough that morning in Sunderland. “If Brian hadn’t done what he did, I wouldn’t have had a life, because I would have been in prison.”

One of the most unforgettable stories featured in Titanic (1997) was inspired by the real-life courage of Benjamin Guggenheim, a wealthy American businessman traveling in first class when the ship struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. As the Titanic began sinking and lifeboats were being filled primarily with women and children, Guggenheim reportedly chose not to seek a place for himself. Instead, he and his valet, Victor Giglio, returned to their cabin and changed into formal evening attire, determined to face their final moments with dignity. Guggenheim is famously remembered for reportedly declaring that he wished to “die like a gentleman.” According to survivor accounts, he also entrusted a steward with a final message for his wife, explaining that he had fulfilled his duty and that no woman would be left aboard the ship because Benjamin Guggenheim had acted like a coward. His story remains one of the Titanic disaster’s most poignant accounts of courage, sacrifice, and honor in the face of certain death.

I wish all teachers were like this

En 1997, mientras el britpop se ahogaba en su propia arrogancia, un hombre de Wigan escribió una melodía que sonaba a libertad absoluta. No era un himno de rabia, sino un susurro de gratitud que terminaría definiendo a toda una generación...

Quite possibly the most satisfying left hook I've seen in some time

A gentleman can always think on his feet. 😂 "Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings." - David Niven, after a streaker crossed the stage while he was hosting the 1974 Oscars.

In 1986 a guy got kicked out of every casino in Vegas for counting cards. So he flew to Hong Kong with $180,000 and started betting on horses instead. He walked away with almost $900 million. It's Bill Benter. He figured horse racing was just another counting problem. Same math, more moving parts. He and a partner showed up with $180k and a computer. Benter spent years teaching that computer to guess one thing, the real chance each horse had to win. If his number was better than the odds the bookies gave, he bet. If not, he skipped it. That's the whole trick. Expected value. EV = p · b − (1 − p) Only bet when your win chance p, at odds b, is worth more than your chance of losing. This recording was never meant to be some hidden gem. Nobody expected Professor Tsitsiklis to hand the whole foundation away in 45 minutes, but that's exactly what happens on the board. Students in that room pay over $80,000 a year to sit through it. It's free right here. It's free right here. Every quant, every professional bettor, every hedge fund analyst started with this exact hour. Benter just watched it and actually did the homework. Almost nobody knows this lecture even exists. Watch it before it gets taken down. The answer is in this video.

📆 On this day, in 1999, Paolo Di Canio scored twice against Arsenal. ▪️ The first goal was 𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗙𝗙𝗬. ▪️ The second goal was 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗖 Di Canio.

I have not seen a better explanation of Manchester City's case.

Hilarious...Jeremy Irons is a perfect fit for Arsene! Who's your favourite?

BREAKING NEWS! The engineer who built Claude Code from scratch just released a 28-minute video that's pure gold: how to write prompts that deliver ridiculously good results. I've seen $300 courses that don't even come close to what he explains in the first 10 minutes. CLAUDE.md files, memory shortcuts, parallel sessions, and prompting patterns that almost no one uses... All in one single video. Completely free. No fluff. Whether you're a developer, just starting, or have already been using Claude for months, this changes the game for you starting today. Save. Watch. Heung-min Son provided an abundance of both class and loyalty during his time at #Tottenham, and I’m delighted that he was ultimately rewarded for that by lifting silverware as club captain. He is undoubtedly a legend of our club, and it was a pleasure to live through his 10 excellent years in a #Spurs shirt. Thank you for everything, captain, leader, and legend, Heung-min Son 👑🤍

Ange Postecoglou on his decision to make Heung-Min Son the #thfc captain in 2023: "I thought the key thing in looking for a leader was a unifier. This is who Sonny is. He could literally sit at any table in the lunch room, whether it was staff or players, and get a conversation going. That was going to be important for us. "His demeanour at the training ground, and the way he trained, was almost like he was a first-year player every time he was out there. If your leaders are not engaged, or lack enthusiasm, at any stage, that filters through to the whole group. But he would not allow that to happen." [The Athletic]
