Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked on ML for brain scans, built backend systems for 5-foot-tall autonomous security robots, helped scale GoPro Plus to 2M subscribers, and grew an Indian fusion food page to nearly 1M followers.
Now I’m building ZeroGPU, a compute-efficient layer for AI inference.
My career trajectory has been nothing short of a canon event. Let’s rewind a little ⬇️
2010: Moved from India to the U.S. for my master’s and started working as a research fellow in neuroimaging, building data pipelines and working with ML models to identify lesions in brain scans.
2012: Joined Walmart Labs, working on backend infrastructure supporting Walmart’s rapidly growing global e-commerce business.
2014–2015: Moved into machine learning, video infrastructure, and robotics. Advised startups on ML-driven video systems and built backend systems for autonomous security robots, covering telemetry, real-time analytics, and computer vision.
2016: Joined GoPro. Over the next four years, I helped launch and scale GoPro Plus internationally to 2M subscribers while building backend systems supporting millions of users.
Around the same time, I started Indian Gastronomy, a side project experimenting with Indian fusion food. It eventually grew to nearly 1M followers.
2021 onward: Worked across media streaming, ad infrastructure, blockchain, and high-scale backend systems.
While advising startups, I noticed companies increasingly relying on larger AI models and more tokens, even when smaller models could do the job more efficiently.
I started helping teams make that transition, which eventually led to a bigger idea.
2025: Started @ZeroGPU_AI.
We’re building a compute-efficient AI inference layer that runs suitable workloads across everyday devices instead of relying entirely on centralized GPU infrastructure.
If it’s not obvious, I’ve always been drawn to emerging technologies.
I’ve spent most of my career building rather than sharing publicly. Time to change that.
I’ll be sharing more about AI inference, infrastructure, smaller models, and what we’re learning at ZeroGPU.
Stay tuned :)
It’s not a copacetic state of affairs, especially when folks can’t recognise “Jonn” – or however you pronounce it – Dreze, one of the primary architects of MGNREGA. x.com/i/article/2109…
