Your athletic career is most likely temporary; your character lasts a lifetime. The person you are is far more important than the player you are! What are your habits/routines? Are you grateful, humble, honest. Do you care for others? Be someone people respect on & off the court!

The best athletes I have ever seen/worked with all have one thing in common: they can narrow their focus to one single thing, on command. The ability to eliminate unnecessary information and distractions allows your brain to be free and your body to do what it’s supposed to do 🧠

3. ARM CARE. Band work/weighted balls can be incorporated into your dynamic warm-up. As little as 5 minutes of arm care can help keep the arm feeling fresh when you're playing a million games. Check out the link below for more:

2. Sleep 8+ Hours. You're nearly twice as likely to have a musculoskeletal injury when you sleep for less than 8 hours. Get off your phone and go to bed.

1. Lift Weights. Stronger athletes are less injured and able to withstand a long season. In-season lifts 2-3x/week for 30-45 min is plenty.

If your coach holds you accountable, you are VERY fortunate. A lot of coaches accept their players doing whatever they want, whenever they want with no consequences. Discipline/responsibility/accountability are life prep! If your coach cares that much, you’re lucky so respect it!

Being coachable means you're willing to consider feedback even if you don't like what you hear. It means resisting the urge to make excuses or get defensive when challenged. Getting better is more important than your ego. You'd rather get it right than be right.

"My biggest fear is anyone going to learn how to fail?  They don't want to endure the process.  It's okay to fail.  You don't learn as much from winning as you do from losing."

All coaches must create practice environments that help players develop a love for the game while, at the same time, fostering their competitiveness & confidence. It all works together. Improving one without the others just won’t work & players won’t become the best they can be!

Softball collegiate athletes have a little under a month “off” coming up. How are you going to spend your time? However you choose to spend it will reveal itself in the spring. Your 2023 season is in your hands. 🗣

When are softball players actually time off these days? I see so many athletes posting about tournaments in December and team practices. When is their break? Professional athletes take time off, why aren’t growing athletes doing the same?

Girls, it’s up to you to reach out. Reread emails, send out multiple emails, go to the camps. HS and travel coaches support you through the process, but can only do so much. College coaches need to know of YOUR interest in the college. #softballrecruiting
