every new luxury building is somebody’s affordable apartment in 20 years. that’s how literally every older apartment you can afford right now came to exist. someone built it new and someone complained it was too fancy
The White House claimed there were 16,000 non us citizens in Nevada that were on the voter rolls… after being forced to provide data to this they dropped their made up number to 185… Nevada investigated the 185 names and discovered that all of them were legal us citizens that were legally allowed to vote. Meaning the Trump White House was only off by 100%.
Fun fact: California's Coastal Act establishes that all land up to the mean high tide line is public property available for public use.
Right now, the mean high tide line is marching straight across some of the most exclusive, NIMBY-owned beachfront homes in California.
"I want to shift the focus from the technical aspects to the social aspects.”
The goal isn’t to create more cyclists. It’s to create cities where more people enjoy full, healthy, connected lives—and cycling becomes one of the most normal ways to do that.

I’m sorry, the clip of Zohran Mamdani getting on a Citi Bike while someone yells out “communist!” and him replying that it’s actually pronounced “cyclist” is forever etched in my mind.
I aspire to achieve this level of quick-witted and respectful clapbacks!
What if every city that declared a #ClimateEmergency actually acted like it’s an emergency?
What if every city that committed to #VisionZero actually acted like they meant it, prioritizing human lives in decision-making?
What if every city’s budget actually reflected their approved plans & visions?
Both are city vehicles, but...
Only one demands minimal space, doesn't threaten lives, and causes zero wear on our roads. Yet the cargo bike has to beg for every single scrap of safe infrastructure, while the massive SUV is just handed the entire city by default.
Being hit by a truck will lead to critical injury or death. Whether on an e-bike, Citi Bike, goddamn unicycle. Carrying packages or passengers. Old or young. Wearing a helmet or not.
Looking to blame any of the above is about making yourself feel better, not saving lives.
The SF waterfront is some of the most valuable land in the world. This area should be skyscrapers full of housing, businesses and shops.
The stupidest possible use is a data center.
Roughly $10/gallon for gasoline in the Netherlands, but you know what they did? They learned from their oil crisis in the 70s and went all out on designing better cities while funding the hell out of walkability, bikes, and all forms of public transit.

Wrong tweet of the week.
If you live in urban California, Vancouver will transform your ideas of what public transit can be, and how dense a happy and prosperous West Coast city can be.
Palm trees are a scam.
They drink more water and provide less shade than other trees. They're also highly flammable and dangerous in high wind.
Time for LA to replace Palm Trees with trees that provide actual shade and cool down our city.

Sometimes the WAR ON WALKING results in no sidewalks at all. Sometimes they put “something” in — but does that really make things walkable for anyone except those without any other choices?
The #WARonWALKING takes many forms, but it’s always about making things comfortable for vehicles, not people.

I wish more Americans could wrap their heads around this. Amsterdam is easier to drive in than Atlanta -- despite far, far less road capacity -- because so FEW people have reason to drive cars there.
Give people choices, and the whole city works better.
Which has better travel times for cars: Amsterdam or Atlanta? Remarkably, it's Amsterdam.
There's a critical lesson here: it's possible to design great places for walking, biking, and transit that are also better for drivers. We just published a report on how.
telling new construction "oh 20% of your units need to hemorrhage money" is so dumb.
affordable unit requirements greatly reduce housing supply and should be eliminated.
Meant to tweet this two days ago. But it has been a year (and two days) since JD Vance said, after a mass shooting, that it's ridiculous to think that calls for prayer are a way to deflect responsibility for taking action against gun violence.
Maybe action will come next year.
It is shocking to me that so many left wing politicians attack the idea of prayer in response to a tragedy.
Literally no one thinks prayer is a substitute for action.
We pray because our hearts are broken and we believe that God is listening.
