And the most magnificently savage dismantling of the Trump administration ever delivered in a language they almost certainly don’t speak. He covers Iran. He covers corruption. He covers the kind of staggering, industrial-scale incompetence that would get you fired from managing a car park. And he does it with the calm, unhurried certainty of a man who has read every page of the indictment and found it, if anything, worse than expected. France has never pretended to like these people. But this is contempt elevated to an art form. The kind of refined, aristocratic disdain that takes centuries of civilization to produce and approximately ninety seconds to deploy. Hello, Gary Usher here… The government have proposed an idea to “help” the hospitality industry by allowing longer opening hours. I feel it’s my duty to explain like others have, how insulting this is. There’s not a single operator I know that wants to open longer. The opposite. We can’t afford to open because costs have risen so much. The impact of NIC hikes among a multitude of other factors have made it impossible to even break even each week & month. We host a very successful guest chef series here to combat the financial crisis that’s closing so many pubs and restaurants but we are still only just getting by. Many have been banging the drum since the pandemic & now you will all know of places that have closed. Spread the word please, tell your MP, support your local places (if you can) & help us to save what’s left of the British hospitality sector. Thanks for reading

We start the week off with some bad news. 69,000 jobs have been lost in Hospitality since the budget, with more to come. The budget was a disaster for our sector, which many warned about. We urgently need to reverse this by lowering the NI and by bringing VAT in line with Europe.

ICE officers stopped by our farm yesterday. “We need to inspect your property for illegal aliens,” one of them said. I replied, “Alright, but whatever you do, don’t go into that field over there.” The officer in charge exploded. “Mister, I have the authority of the federal government behind me!” he barked, reaching into his back pocket. He yanked out a badge and shoved it in my face. “See this fucking badge? This badge means I can go wherever I want on ANY land. No questions asked, no answers given. Am I clear? Do you understand?” I nodded politely and said, “Be my guest.” Then I went back to my chores. About ten minutes later, I heard screaming. I looked up and saw six ICE agents running for their lives, being chased by my big, mean, old bull. And with every step, that bull was closing in. Fast. It looked like they were about to get gored for sure. So I dropped my tools, ran over to the fence, and shouted at the top of my lungs: “YOUR BADGE! SHOW HIM YOUR FUCKING BADGE!”

Late at night on 25 May 2024, a vulnerable teenage girl went missing on the Sussex coast, triggering a desperate search. As darkness closed in, @sussex_police deployed drones to scan the shoreline. At around 22:00 hours, they picked up a faint heat signature offshore. Two sergeants, Matthew Seekings and Craig Lees, were guided to the location. What they found was chilling: the girl was more than 50 metres out to sea. Her head was dipping beneath the surface. Every second counted. The coastguard had been called but would not arrive in time. Without hesitation, PS Seekings and PS Lees entered the freezing water. In near total darkness, they swam out 60 metres and reached the struggling girl, pulling her back to safety. She received emergency care at the scene and was taken to hospital. Thanks to their split-second decision and incredible bravery, a life was saved. The officers have now been nominated for the 2025 National Police Bravery Awards. Sussex Police Federation and Chief Constable Jo Shiner praised their heroism. Gooners. I need your help. My brother travelled to Paris last night via a supporters coach for tonight's game. About 10am, he was on the phone to his daughter as his wife was not answering the phone. She had to break the news to him that her Mum (his wife) had died some time this morning. This is where I need your help. An Arsenal fan who was with their group heard what had happened. He got my brother on a Eurostar home and insisted on paying for it. Whilst my brother was grieving, someone was there to help him. I need to know who it was. I need to repay him, or at least thank him. As a family, we are grieving, but knowing someone has done this warms your heart. If he wants to remain anonymous, that's fine. He didn't do it for publicity. We want to know who it was and thank him. You have no idea what you have done for my brother. If anyone can help, please let me know

When the pub dies, more goes with it than just a pint. I saw an interview with AJ Tracey the other day and it hit the nail on the head. Pubs are part of British culture. They’re where people meet. Where ideas are shared. Where strangers debate politics, sport, life. Where worldviews get challenged, rightly so, all over a pint. But now? £7 pints at a push. Hundreds of closures. Fewer places to gather. Less cross-generational conversation. More isolation. More echo chambers. If people aren’t meeting, they’re not talking. If they’re not talking, they’re not listening. And that, long term, leads to narrower thinking and a more divided society. Reviving the pub isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about rebuilding our social fabric.
