If you've just one year to live; wouldn't your priorities change? Wouldn't you be more loving? Wouldn't you forgive all? Wouldn't you start living in the present as you've no future? Since none of us know our life span, why not think we just have only one year to live?

I didn't even start with nothing. It was less than nothing as I had loans to be repaid. Ultimately I was able to be financially independent. Whether you start with nothing or less than nothing; start taking small steps in the right direction. You're on your way to freedom.

Whether you read an investment or a spirituality book; you would definitely see contradictions. This is because by nature, words have extreme limitations. Look at your understanding after reading and don't get caught in the play of words.
