Super Mario Bros. 3 felt like pure magic as a kid, and to celebrate its 38th anniversary I made another dress in my gaming series!! 🍄🥳 Initially released in Japan on October 23, 1988, Mario 3 subsequently arrived in North America on February 12, 1990! Some of my fondest childhood memories are playing Mario 3 with friends, discovering secrets like the elusive coin ship, and taking turns on levels! There was so much hype leading up to Mario 3’s release! Nintendo Power featured extensive coverage, the U.S. commercial had kids chanting “Mario” in unison, and we got a sneak peek in the film The Wizard before its U.S. release! There were also memorable McDonald’s Happy Meal toys, and I’m holding the springing Raccoon Mario here! I owned the Goomba toy as a kid, though there was also Luigi and a Koopa Paratroopa! Did you collect any of them? Before its release, Shigeru Miyamoto oversaw Mario 3’s creation with a dream team of designers and programmers. To bridge the gap until the SNES and compete with Sega’s Mega Drive, the team developed novel ideas aimed at surpassing the first two games. These included vibrant, theatrical gameplay, innovative power-up suits, charming (yet stressful!) minigames, a myriad of environments, and a fantastic new soundtrack by Koji Kondo. Mario 3 was absolutely enchanting to me as a kid, and I still love it to this day! 💗 What’s your favorite Mario 3 memory?
