another development :) my samsung TV loads a region specific convolutional neural network (LogoCNN.bin, cnn.mapping) which tracks your usage in app. like in youtube it's looking for videos you watch, ads you skip, progress in a video, etc. so glad they're interested in me.

I've been told that BioWare devs attempted to buy out the studio and Mass Effect IP before it was all shuttered but EA showed no interest in a deal. I appreciate that they tried. It seems like they all knew they were cooking up something great. #bioware #masseffect

Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development. • Set 600+ years after the Reaper War • You play as a customizable N7 agent • Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond • Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending • A galaxy divided into three major factions • Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together • Council races forming their own alliance • The Geth emerging as a third superpower • A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary • Geth-built megastructures • Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda • Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference • Hacking and manipulating the environment • See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more • Handcrafted missions like ME1-3 • But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them • Brutal close-range executions • Squadmates who can clash with each other • Romance wasn't being sanitised • Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist. EA buying a company that does a cool thing, making them do something not in their wheelhouse after forcibly restructuring them, and then blowing the company up when it fails has been a thing they've done forever, C&C fans have been on the fuck EA train since 2002.

This is private equity, this is what it does. Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit. The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves. And if we want to avoid the Mass Effect effect in Canada, we should be keeping private equity out, not welcoming it in. pcgamer.com/gaming-industr…
