Morocco is rocking the green scene in Africa! Now, it's time for the rest of Africa to feel the power of collective action! Let's turn the spotlight on our continent in 2024 and show the world we've got the strength to make a green difference together! 🧵 [1/2]

Choose sustainability. Choose life.

✊ People around the world are rising on December 9th.✊ We demand that COP28 doesn’t end without commitments to an equitable and just transition from a capitalist and extractivist economic system, … 👇🏾

Siberia: Hottest day in history Canada: largest wildfire season ever Antarctic: Sea ice extent another record low. Japan: 100 rainfall records broken Global: Hottest days ever recorded. There is no time to wait! #ActOnClimate #climate #energy

There are only two northern white rhinos left on Earth—could “de-extinction” technology save them? on.natgeo.com/3Pnijhl

This is the world's 2nd largest offshore wind project. It will provide enough clean energy to power the homes of 1.3 million families. We have so many solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables

Record-breaking winter heat in the Southern Hemisphere. Perth airport in Western Australia 🇦🇺 just recorded its hottest winter day on record (records go back 79 years here). Cape Town Observatory, South Africa 🇿🇦 records its hottest August day on record with 32.9°C. Records here go back 63 years here.

Although Africa contributes only 2-3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, it disproportionately suffers from climate change. Intensified extreme weather events are forcing people to flee their homes.

We may reach a 1.5°C world in as little as 5 years and 1.5 C world could push the Earth over several tipping points, leading to irreversible changes in the climate system. There is no time to wait. #ActOnClimate #Climate #energy #renewables #natureneedshalf

BREAKING 🚨: NASA's TESS satellite has found a nearby exoplanet with one of the longest-known years of 483 days

‘Mystic Mountain’ captured by Hubble in the Carina Nebula

🌍🌡️📈 Global Surface Air Temperatures are shocking! June-August was extremely hot this year. It broke last year's record by about 0.3 °C! But this wasn't the El Niño effect many say it is (yet):

NASA's James Webb telescope just captured this image of a strange looking supernova out in deep space

You’ve heard about Antarctic sea ice lows - well, here’s the consequences. Over 9,000 emperor penguin chicks from colonies in the Bellingshausen Sea are thought to have died in November 2022. The sea ice they lived on broke up early, before they'd developed waterproof feathers.

Tiny urban forests can help #rewild urban settings and help fight #climatechange. The brainchild of the Japanese botanist Miyawaki is taking his idea global. We have so many solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate #forests #nature #biodiversity

The ocean is becoming more acidic, and the consequences can be catastrophic. Loss of biodiversity is a likely result, accompanied by a reduction of harvestable resources. The only way to stop ocean acidification is to drastically reduce CO₂ emissions.

Witness Saturn’s main character moment 🪐 Saturn is directly opposite the Sun on Aug. 26-27, which will make it look big and bright. Spot the yellowish “star” rising in the southeast at sunset, and traveling across the sky until sunrise: go.nasa.gov/45sjV0e

The climate crisis is also a water crisis. 🌍💧 From rising seas to extreme weather, it's all connected. Yet, water is part of the solution. From soaking up carbon to driving innovative mitigation and adaptation strategies, it's a force to be reckoned with. 💪

Each year, over 430 million tonnes of plastic is produced, with two-thirds of it ending up as waste. See tips on how to #ActNow to #BeatPlasticPollution: bit.ly/PlasticSolutio…
