Police arrested 46 people for blocking Peter Obi in Benue. The face circulating as Paso Igbe Terzungwe was not among those paraded. The Benue government is still asking who sent them. Security or politics?

Nobody should be judged or held responsible for the wrongdoings of others. Peter Obi should not be held responsible for events surrounding the 1966 coup simply because of his identity or background, and the same principle should apply to everyone. We must learn to judge people by their own actions, not by the actions of others.

I don't subscribe to Peter Obi's politics but in all sincerity, I support his idea that Nigerian leaders should spend holidays in Nigeria. We have 37 states including the FCT, and the president is shuttling between France and the UK for vacation. Meanwhile, there's no European leader going to Africa or Asia for holiday. For instance, the President of the US, Donald Trump doesn't spend his holiday outside the US. If he's not 'holidaying' in Florida, he's doing it in New Jersey or Maryland. Tinubu would not die if he visits Gbaramaturu for his holiday.

How Hired Thugs Obstructed My Visit to Benue State Yesterday, I attended the opening of the national campaign office of an opposition presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde in Abuja. My presence was intended to demonstrate that politics can and should be conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and civility. As Governor of Anambra State, I made it a point during electioneering to welcome visiting opposition members personally, provided they acted within the ambits of the law. Guided by that same commitment to decency over partisanship, I travelled to Benue this morning, arriving at approximately 9:00 a.m. on a purely humanitarian mission: to visit the grieving families affected by the horrific killings in Yelwata, where over 270 people were massacred. Regrettably, our convoy was prevented from proceeding to the community by thugs chanting, “Peter Obi, go back.” It was deeply distressing to witness such hostility. I came to Benue not for partisan politics, but to mourn with our people, to listen to families who have lost loved ones, and to offer comfort at a moment of unimaginable sorrow. That a mission intended purely to show solidarity, compassion, and support could be obstructed in this manner is deeply alarming. At a time when our nation should be united in grief and resolute in preventing further bloodshed, we must reject any action capable of deepening our divisions. The people of Benue - and all Nigerians - deserve to sleep without fear. They deserve to travel without fear. They deserve to cultivate their land without fear. Above all, they deserve a country where the state places the protection of human life far above political expediency. Although we were unable to reach the community today, our thoughts and prayers remain steadfastly with the victims, their families, and the entire Yelwata community. We shall continue to work until the primary responsibility of government - the safeguarding of every Nigerian life - is restored. Nigerians would edge you on till you enter your waterloo and they'll dump you. Okay, let's assume it this way. Peter Obi was arriving Benue and the sponsored thugs wielding rifles and other weapons stopped him. He wanted to charge through but his security details advised him otherwise. He insisted and took his team which was very few in number, and charged through the armed thugs. The thugs resisted and the scuffle started. Of course, they easily outnumbered Peter Obi and his small team. In the brief altercation, Esther lost her right eye, MamaPee lost all her front teeth, Mr Paul's head got broken, Zekeri got stabbed and Peter Obi got beaten mercilessly. After the destruction, the security team comes on media to tell Nigerians that they actually warned Peter Obi against going against the thugs but he insisted and risked the lives of his team members and at the moment, no one knows wether Zekeri would make it out alive from the ICU. The FG would come out and condemn the attack and condemn Peter Obi for being reckless. Akin Tollgate would assess the situation and claim that's the reason why he left Obidient movement because Peter Obi is not actually thoughtful. Omojuwa would write another epistle asking for the prosecution of Peter Obi for disturbing public peace. The Benue govt. makes a case that one of the thugs was actually killed by Peter Obi's team and they're holding Peter Obi responsible. The Channels TV and Seun immediately platforms the thug leader to narrate his distorted version while intermittently playing clips of Peter Obi fighting through the thug. This same people attacking for not fighting today, would begin to write pages how Nelson Mandela achieved a lot without fighting. They'll ask why should they vote in a man who can't handle his emotions. The next week, Benue govt. with the help of FG frames Obi and sue him for violence and manslaughter. DSS is petitioned to detain Obi in the interest of public peace. The next day, Peter Obi is picked up and detained in the room next to that of El Rufai. Some youths come online and make noise for a few days, while APC floods the TVs with 'professors' and 'intellectuals' to defend the arrest. And the whole opposition politics is messed up, and the ADC sacrifices Peter Obi for political gains. All hope is lost. And 10 years later, Peter Obi is remembered as the man who stopped Nigerians from removing Tinubu. Politics is politics. Emotions are emotions. Power is power. Emotion is not power. Every sensible human being understands the importance of Peter Obi's refrain in the face of sponsored violence.

Yesterday, 8th September, following the unfortunate incident in Benue State, where our delegation was prevented from proceeding to Yelwata to visit displaced Nigerians and families affected by the recent attacks, I proceeded to Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where I visited an IDP camp housing over 500 displaced persons. The situation in Mangu is deeply disturbing. Over 45,000 people have reportedly been displaced, while more than 20 communities have been sacked by terrorists. These are Nigerians who want nothing more than to return to their ancestral homes, rebuild their communities, cultivate their farms, and live their lives in peace and dignity. As I have always maintained, as long as there is one displaced Nigerian, all Nigerians are displaced. I therefore urge the government to do more to secure these beleaguered communities and restore the confidence of our people. The right to life, safety, dignity and livelihood must be protected for every Nigerian, irrespective of where they live, their ethnicity, religion or political affiliation. Our displaced citizens must not become forgotten Nigerians. They are citizens of our country whose homes, livelihoods and futures have been disrupted. Government must create the conditions for their safe and dignified return, secure their communities and support them to rebuild their lives. I concluded my visit by offering my modest support to the displaced families as a gesture of solidarity, compassion and shared humanity. The New Nigeria we seek must be a country where every citizen can live, work, farm, raise a family and pursue their dreams in peace and security. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
