REFLECTION FOR WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2026 First Reading: Isaiah 56: 1, 6-7 Second Reading: Romans 10: 9-18 Gospel: John 17: 11b, 17-23 ONE IN CHRIST, UNITED IN MISSION Dear friend in Christ, today is the 100th world mission Sunday with the theme "One in Christ, united in mission." Our liturgy of today is centered on unity in Christ and our shared mission to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples. In the first reading, the Lord calls us to do what is right, practise justice, keep the Sabbath holy, and remain faithful to His covenant. He promises to welcome all peoples into His house of prayer. In the second reading, St Paul says that those who believe in Jesus and confess that He is Lord will be saved. Faith comes from hearing the word of Christ, and those who preach the good news must be sent. In the Gospel, Jesus prays that his disciples may be consecrated in truth and remain united as one, just as he and the Father are one, so that the world may believe that the Father sent him and loves them. Dearly beloved in Christ, as we celebrate World Mission Sunday today, we are reminded that God desires the salvation of all peoples. He calls us to practise justice, remain faithful to His word and share His love with everyone. His house is a house of prayer for all peoples, and as members of His Church, we all have a responsibility to bring others closer to Him. This missionary responsibility may take different forms, but we are all called to participate in the same mission of proclaiming the Gospel and making Christ known to the world. In the Gospel, Jesus prays that His disciples may be one, just as He and the Father are one, so that the world may believe that the Father sent Him. This unity is essential to our missionary calling. We cannot effectively preach a Gospel of love when we allow hatred, jealousy, division and bitterness to prevail among us. Whether in our families, parishes or wider communities, our unity and love for one another should bear witness to Christ. As Pope Leo XIV reminds us through this year’s theme, “One in Christ, united in mission,” our union with Christ and with one another strengthens our mission and helps the world encounter God’s love. St Paul reminds us that faith comes from hearing the word of Christ. But how can people believe if they have not heard the Good News? This is why the Church needs missionaries who are willing to go out and proclaim Christ, sometimes far from their homes and in difficult circumstances. However, not everyone is called to leave home and travel to distant lands. Some give to the mission by going, while others go to the mission by giving. Through our financial contributions, prayers and practical support, we help missionaries carry out their work. Whichever category we belong to, we must remain united in heart and in prayer. Those who go should know that they are supported by the prayers and generosity of others, while those who give should remember that their contributions support the same work of evangelisation. No contribution made with love is insignificant, and no missionary should feel alone in carrying out this task. Brethren, as we celebrate World Mission Sunday, let us remember that we are all united in one mission, even when our roles differ. Let us support those who proclaim the Gospel in distant lands, pray for their safety and success, and give generously according to our means. Let us also bear witness to Christ wherever we find ourselves through our words, actions and love for one another. Above all, may we never allow our differences to divide us, but remain united in Christ, in heart and in prayer. Through the intercession of our Mother Mary, Queen of Missions, may the whole Church continue to proclaim God’s saving love, so that the world may believe. Amen. Happy the one the Lord has chosen as His heritage

Saint of the Day: St Teresa of Ávila (1515–1582) St Teresa of Ávila was a Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic, spiritual writer, and Doctor of the Church. She entered the Carmelite convent at Ávila at the age of 20, initially without any great attraction to religious life. However, through years of prayer and spiritual growth, she developed a deep contemplative life that transformed her relationship with God. In 1562, despite opposition, she founded a convent of Discalced Carmelite nuns, embracing a stricter way of life marked by poverty, simplicity, and prayer. She spent the rest of her life establishing more convents and reforming the Carmelite Order, enduring considerable difficulties along the way. Her writings on contemplative prayer remain influential in the Church today. In 1970, Pope Paul VI declared her a Doctor of the Church. St Teresa reminds us that a deep life of prayer should not separate us from the world but inspire us to act with greater courage, love, and faithfulness. Even in moments of frustration and suffering, we can bring our honest feelings before God, trusting that He understands us. Her famous humorous remark after falling into a river during a journey captures this intimacy: “If this is how you treat your friends, no wonder you have so few of them!” As we celebrate her memorial today, may St Teresa of Ávila inspire us to persevere in prayer, trust God through difficulties, and allow our relationship with Him to bear fruit in our daily lives. St Teresa of Ávila, pray for us! 🙏

Good morning my mutuals, we go again.

Heavenly Father, I lift my mutuals up to You today. Grant them sincere hearts, humility, and the courage to stand for the truth. May their words and actions reflect Your love, and may they never become obstacles to those seeking You. Lord, protect them from hypocrisy, pride, and every trap of the enemy. Strengthen their faith, bless their families, provide for their needs, and guide them throughout this day. May their lives bear good fruits and bring others closer to You. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. May Christ Himself bless you, your day and all your endeavours today ☘️

Heavenly Father, I lift my mutuals into Your loving hands today. Grant us the grace to live out our faith sincerely, not merely through outward religious practices but through genuine love for You and compassion for our neighbours. Help us to uphold justice, treat others fairly, and show kindness to everyone we encounter. May our lives reflect the goodness of Your heart. Lord, deliver us from the desire for recognition, praise, and positions of honour. Teach us to serve with humility and to seek Your approval above the applause of men. Purify our hearts from pride, hypocrisy, and every hidden sin that prevents us from becoming the people You have called us to be. May our words and actions always bear good fruits and lead others closer to You. Merciful Father, give my mutuals the wisdom to encourage others rather than burden them, and the compassion to support those who are struggling. Strengthen those who are weary, provide for those in need, heal the brokenhearted, and open doors of favour and opportunities for those seeking breakthroughs. As we journey through this day, may Your grace guide our decisions, Your love fill our hearts, and Your peace remain with us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. May Christ Himself bless you and your day ☘️
