The argument that communists should support Russia because it's fighting against NATO is a testament to the weakness of the movement as a whole. It's an anti-communist capitalist regime that is not fighting NATO for any reason other than it's own gain.

By comparison, modern Russia and its bootlicker sycophants offer nothing but the same system of exploitation under a 'multi-polar' system where basic rights and liberties are not even given lip service (at least you won't worry about 'hypocrisy' when the baton cracks your skull)
