Claude Opus 5.5 vs Kimi K3.1 Pro Same prompt: a rooftop glass pool at sunset, built from scratch in code. - Opus 5.5: 26 min, ~$12.35 - Kimi K3.1 Pro: 19 min, ~$0.63 Kimi was 20x cheaper and nailed the night lighting. Opus on the other hand looks detailed. Which one would you pick?

Kimi K3.1 Pro beats GPT-6 Astra and Fable 5.1 on Terminal-Bench 4.0. But how good is it at actual coding? So I gave it the frontend test I run on every major model release, this time using Kimi Code: One prompt + one reference image. The task: rebuild a 3D globe dashboard. 🌎 Two things stood out: 1. Day/night mode toggle. The reference image shows this toggle, but my prompt never mentions it. K3.1 Pro spotted it and built it anyway. 2. 2D/3D view switching. It built both views, including a working 2D mode. The Three.js globe also looks close to the reference. In night mode, city lights appear and disappear naturally as the globe rotates. K3.1 Pro reads the reference image like a senior frontend dev reading a design spec. It catches details beyond the written instructions. From this test, I'd put K3.1 Pro on par with GPT-6 Astra and Opus 5.5 for frontend and visuals. On a few small details, I liked Kimi's version better.

china has caught up again moonshot announced their new model k3.1 pro and it matches astra and fable performance at fraction of the cost openai and anthropic were relaxed while china was far behind, but this is just the start next up are qwen and glm models, which i'm sure will do way better pressure on openai and anthropic has increased but way more on anthropic as they have ipo coming up next month and now model from china has taken fable's place i expect response from both openai and anthropic in about 2 weeks. things are about to get interesting

TLDR on the kimi k3.1 pro benchmarks is that it looks like they figured out their RL, where the initial release was a very impressive base model with lighter post-training. China is very much keeping pace with capability gains.
