🚨 CBC lied — we’ve got receipts Last week during the leaders’ debate in Montreal, something shocking happened. The CBC — Canada’s state broadcaster — abandoned journalism and became a lobby group. Their target? Rebel News. Despite two court rulings saying it was illegal to ban us from the debates, the CBC actively pressured the Debates Commission to exclude us — led by their hosts David Cochrane and Rosemary Barton, who were obsessively fixated on us the entire day. They even claimed our billboard truck was operating illegally. Cochrane pushed these falsehoods directly to the debates commissioner. Please don't lie on Twitter. UNIFOR, the largest union of Canadian journalists, registered as a third party campaign group (as they always do). That takes union dues from journalists at the Globe, CBC, CTV, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, etc. to campaign against Poilievre. And the CBC has not one but two SuperPACs this year.

Yesterday a CBC reporter asked Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, if President Trump still believes that Canada should be the 51st state, given his silence on this--and related issues--these past few weeks. Her response that Trump's position is the same naturally resulted in a slew of stories, dominating yesterday's election coverage. This is a classic case of the media driving the news, with a strong whiff of bias. Why? 1. There's no actual news. There’s no new statement, no policy proposal, no social media post. Yet the reporter injected the idea into the campaign by asking the White House press secretary about it—thereby manufacturing a headline. That’s not journalism reacting to an event. That’s a reporter creating an event. 2. It reinforces the Liberal campaign strategy. The Liberals are eager to run a campaign about "scary Poilievre-Trump chaos" rather than their record. By reinvoking the spectre of Trump, the CBC helps the Liberals and hurts the Conservatives. 3. Media are incentivized to be biased. Whether consciously or not, media outlets follow storylines that resonate with their audiences and their own internal biases. If the culture of an outlet leans progressive, questions like the CBC's naturally come up. It may not be intentionally biased, but the outcome is the same. This episode is another sign of a bad trend: the transformation of the media from observers and interrogators of power into partisan actors. In the United States, this shift is already complete—legacy outlets have abandoned even the pretense of neutrality. Now, that same impulse is taking hold in Canada. When reporters ask questions designed not to elicit facts but to reinforce a preferred political narrative, they stop informing public opinion and start manipulating it.
