A problem of @jamestanton that I found completely mindblowing when I saw it (years ago now!) was to describe the "squine" curve mathematically. And there it is, in the middle image below. So... can you figure out how to write that function using standard math/trig functions?

Hey stats folx. So one would expect the distribution of Mega Millions Megaball numbers to be relatively uniformly distributed. As you can see below, this isn't the case. Can you figure out why?

@jamestanton This is an example of Euclid's formula. We have vertices (m, m), (m, n), (n, m), and (n, n). Let a = m^2-n^2, b = 2mn, and c = m^2+n^2. Then (m^2+n^2)^2 = (m^2 - n^2)^2 + (2mn)^2 which gives us c^2 = a^2 + b^2. Very clever visual.

When I ask this question, I often get the same 3 answers: 1/8 1/7 "It can't be a fraction...the parts aren't the same size!" The answers I hear tell me about the experiences Ss have had with fractions so far...and where the discussions could go next. #iteachmath #HRCEmath #mtbos

@MathforLove This is such a neat relationship! How did I not see this connection before? You can make a regular hexagon using square numbers of 3 types of blocks–1 rhombus, 1 triangle, and 1 trapezoid. Then scale up! Hexagon sizes from 1 to 7 (1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49 blocks of each type).
