No matter what wellness grifters say, there’s no magic technique to “release” trauma (whatever that means)
Real treatment goes like this:
“Psychotherapy cannot erase painful memories. What psychotherapy can do is develop a person’s ability to become aware of their intrusion,…
“In my most evil moments, I was convinced that I was doing good, and I was well supplied with systematic arguments. And it was only when I lay there rotting on prison straw that I sensed within myself the first stirrings of good.
Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line…
In my practice, the term "psychodynamic" refers to unconscious psychological and emotional processes to become aware of and make use of in the service of personal growth and well-being. Here are my recommended key building blocks of successful psychodynamic therapy:
In psychotherapy, how do we think about emotion?
Many therapeutic models (e.g., emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, etc.) suggest that the task is: 1) notice what you feel (e.g., sadness, anger, fear); 2) name it; 3) regulate and/or express it.

“The human condition is not a particularly admirable condition and we’re all predators in one form or another as well as prey and if you aren’t open to your own evil, ugliness, deficits, limitation, you’re not going to be able to be non-shaming to your patient”

“Loneliness is not just the absence of people. It is the absence of purpose, the absence of meaning. When you find yourself in a world where everything seems alien and distant, where every connection is superficial, and every attempt at understanding is met with indifference, you…
“The experience of speaking from the heart and being taken seriously builds the psychic architecture that supports the capacity to bear life”
—Nancy McWilliams
It only takes five minutes to break the cycle.
Five minutes of exercise and you are back on the path. Five minutes of writing and the manuscript is moving forward again. Five minutes of conversation and the relationship is restored.
It doesn't take much to feel good again.
Interesting chart from Otto Kernberg, who sees certain personality structures as almost always operating at a more primitive/pathological level, and others as operating at a more neurotic level (from the book Aggressivity, Narcissism and Self-destructiveness)
