Held discussions with H.E. Mr. Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, PR of Bahrain to the @UN, and briefed him on #Eritrea’s assessment of the situation in the #Horn of #Africa. Explained the #Ethiopia|n leadership’s three-year-long campaign over access to the Red Sea, including increasingly explicit statements by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and senior military commanders challenging #Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and threatening the use of force. Underscored that, in the face of persistent threats of force and explicit declarations of war by #Ethiopia|n leaders, #Eritrea has exercised maximum restraint and avoided being drawn into an escalation fuelled by provocative rhetoric and threats. Emphasized the importance of ensuring that all member states are fully apprised of the underlying context, the implications of #Ethiopia’s posture for regional peace and security, and the imperative of unequivocal respect for #Eritrea’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and unity. Marsa Fatima መርሳ ፋቱማ is ninety five kilometers from Dalul where the potash reserve is found. Buri Peninsula is located at the Ingel administrative area. The coast line on the Red Sea, from Marsa Fatima to Tio, which covers about 90 kilometers distance along the coast of Red Sea, is a flat land, without hills or ridges. Marsa Fatima came to become a place of history with the coming of the Italian colonizers to Eritrea. The Italian colonialism, as history tells us is known as settler colonialism. Settler colonialism is when colonizers come to one country not only in search of raw materials and cheap labor but also to permanently settle there and make the country as their own. Marsa Fatima was therefore an important small port for the Italians where they took it as nearby gate way for exploitation of potash from the Dalul Depression.And the Italians had big stores where they used to accumulate war supplies for their invading army to the south. Marsa Fatima has also been very important place during the long years of armed struggle for Eritrean independence. The marsa, a small port, was highly used by the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front for transporting of different items of supplies needed for the struggle. Although Eritrea is certainly far from the largest in terms of geographic area (covering an area of approximately 125,000 km²), it has a very diverse flora and fauna, both at land and in the sea. Among the country’s most important ecosystems are the coastal marine and island ecosystems of the Red Sea. The waters off Eritrea’s hundreds of islands and its extensive coastline – which at approximately 1,900 km long makes it one of the longest in all of Africa – contain over 1,100 fish species and 44 genera of hard coral, resulting in one of the highest recorded levels of endemism and species diversity for a water body. Remarkably, around 18 percent of fish species and 20 percent of coral species are reported to be endemic to these waters.
