Breaking: Final Israeli pre-election polls in three major TV channels: • Netanyahu coalition parties win 50 out of 120 Knesset seats. • The Bloc for Change gets 52-56 seats. • Eisenkot favored over Netanyahu as national leader by 6-10% gap. • The Arab parties (including Abbas’s party Raam with Jewish former police officer and MK Segalovitz) are projected to score about 16 seats. • Small non-bloc parties may or may not get the threshold of 4 seats. ==> My take: • Eisenkot and his partners will need the Arab parties to back them; hopefully as full coalition members rather than supportive outsiders. • The predicted 50 Netanyahu bloc seats are not what I would have liked in the aftermath of 7 October, but not all of its voters are bibists. The ultra Orthodox parties have their separate agenda. Eisenkot’s party scores better than Likud. • The polls can be very wrong, in either direction. And so much can still happen before and during 27 October. • The great election odyssey I mentioned in an earlier tweet, 70K Israelis flocking from abroad to vote, is of course not included in the polls. • For liberal democracy and some horizon for peace, this is probably the last stand. Fingers crossed.

But myriads of citizens working or studying abroad are currently flocking to Israel for the 27 October election. To the tune of 70K incomers, and counting. This is worth at least 1 Knesset seat. Most of them are here to oust the Netanyahu regime. For some, this election will decide whether they can return to live in the country they still call home. I’ve seen a lot of abhorrent things on this app, but the immediate dismissal and ridicule by the British Left of a forthcoming government report on antisemitism towards Jewish children is just appalling. I naïvely thought that, when it came to children specifically, the usual suspects would be more empathetic (or at least more cautious), but alas. The abject cruelty is profoundly disturbing. Ironically, of course, they make the case for Zionism better than any Zionist ever could. Herzl is vindicated time and time and time again.

Israeli actress Sarai Givaty has filed a NIS 500,000 defamation lawsuit against UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese. Albanese shared a 3-second clip from a 2025 interview of Givaty, using the actress’s remarks to compare them to arguments used by Nazi officials in justifying the murder of children. In the lawsuit, Givaty states that the short clip was taken out of context, and not once did she call for the murder of children. Nevertheless, the post reached over 2 million views, resulting in death threats and harm to the actress’s career. How Albanese still has any affiliation with the UN is beyond me, but hopefully, for once, she can be properly held accountable.
